FINAL DECISION: I really enjoyed this book, although I didn't find it or the characters particularly deep. It reads more like a novella, but certainly a good one.

THE STORY: Rana Malik has promised her mother to find a proper possible husband rather than continue her history of sexual relationships. Just at this moment, Rana is tempted by her neighbor, who Rana watches through his uncovered windows. Micah Hale is hiding. After being a victim of violence, Micah left his home and family and has come to town intending to try to get his career as an artist back on track. He certainly doesn't want to get involved with his sexy next-door neighbor, although he cannot help but watch her watch him.

OPINION: These characters had an interesting setup and I liked them and their relationship. They were well set for a short book. There is not much depth to them beyond their quick description: an artist suffering from PTSD and a woman who is being slut shamed by her mother attempting to be the "good girl". Everything is a stereotype of what would be expected. We get the support of the woman -- "you shouldn't be ashamed of having many sexual partners," and the hero gets therapy to deal with his issues. How everything worked out was banal and exactly what you would expect.

So there was nothing novel or great about this book. I really liked the relationship between Rana and Micah. I thought it was supportive and very sexy. There were some really great moments in the story that definitely were great. Because the story went so fast, I would recommend it.

WORTH MENTIONING: The book deals with post-traumatic experiences after a violent attack.

CONNECTED BOOKS: SERVING PLEASURE is the second book in the Pleasure series. It is not necessary to read the first book to enjoy this one. (I haven't read the first book).

STAR RATING: I give this book 4 stars.

Serving Pleasure is Alisha Rai's second book in the Pleasure Series. This story centers around oldest sister Rana and her neighbor Micah. Rana has recently decided to change her wild ways and is on a path to stability. After years of living life on the wild side (at least per her family's opinion), she has decided to go on one date a week with a man that would come closer to fitting her mother's description of a stable, long term partner. Micah has recently moved to the US after struggling to recover from a violent attack that left him scarred both physically and emotionally. Micah spends his days in his studio painting. Rana realizes soon after he moves in that she can watch this beautiful recluse in his studio from her bedroom window. When these two finally meet the chemistry between them is immediately apparent. They quickly agree to a one time only hook up but find that one time just won't be enough. This book follows Micah as he struggles to come to terms with the man he is now as he learns to accept that different does not mean less. Rana must come to terms with the realization that being true to herself may mean that she has to live without the acceptance and respect of her family. Watching these two learn about themselves and each other is quite a ride. I've read the first book in the Pleasure series as well and I look forward to the third book about the middle sister Leena. It's nice to see a different culture represented in this genre. Personally, I enjoy seeing characters who are flawed but learned to love their perceived flaws rather than try to change their true self.

This is a sequel to "Glutton for Pleasure". Which was so well written that I did not realized it was Ms. Rai first book. In "Glutton" we meet three sisters who jointly operate an restaurant. Devi the youngest sister and chef finds love. In "Serving" Rana (Ray-na), the oldest sister and front end manager, inspired by both Devi's happiness and maternal pressure decides to concentrate on finding Mr. Right instead of Mr. Right Now. Her plans go awry when she actually meets the man next door that she has been spying on and stalking. Their relationship has a lot of very explicit,very sweet sex and tangled shifting expectations and desires. Despite a lot of wonderful sex there is so much more going on in this story that the book is multi layer and would be a good read even ran through one of those terrible PG filters but it would be more like a piece of bread instead of a sandwich.
I read two other books after reading 'Serving' and before writing this review. Those other books underlined for me the great skill Ms. Rai has in writing dialogue. The conversations flow between all the characters and are never forced, never artificial, never contrived and always relevant to the plot and the characters development.
I am glad that there is one sister left so that some day I may learn more of this complex and passionate family.

I loved this book! The main characters help each other with loving themselves (while beautifully, sensually, and passionately falling in love each other.)

Rana is a super-extroverted “people person.” Micah is a reclusive, tortured artist. I simply adored Rana. Her POV chapters are filled with absolutely fantastic inner monologue. The relationship dynamic between her and her family, particularly her sisters, is wonderfully portrayed and is absolutely key to showing who Rana is as a person. Micah’s character is largely shaped by past trauma. I really like the fact that the story doesn’t present the love of a good woman as the cure-all for whatever ails the hero.

I purchased this book in 2015, but didn’t read it until 2017. Why? I’m a series completionist, this is the second book in the series, and book one (Glutton for Pleasure) is a menage romance with twin brothers. Poly romances are included in the mixed bag of what I read, but I often have trouble getting into stories that involve siblings in poly relationships (and pairs of brothers seem particularly popular in menage books). When I finally read book one, I enjoyed it (4 stars). If that type of manage isn’t your thing and/or you aren’t a series completionist, Serving Pleasure can absolutely be read as a standalone.

This book hit me right in the feels! I always, ALWAYS love my erotica with heap tons of romance - and when there's an actual balance between the two, not just pointless sex - and that's exactly what this book gave me! I loved how well fleshed out the characters were - both Rana, Micah, and Rana's sisters and family. To be honest, I had more of a connection to Devi's character in this book than in her own story (Glutton For Pleasure), and I really wish there would be another book on the last sister! She needs her own happy ending!

I highly recommend this book for all romance lovers out there who don't mind a little bit of heat. I'd definitely be reading it again.

I adored this book. Alisha Rai’s hero and heroine are scarred by different pasts. Micah’s damage was the work of a deranged stranger; Rana’s is the internal kind only a mother can inflict. Alisha Rai manages the balance between healing themselves and finding love in each other’s arms perfectly. There’s also a fabulous drunken sister evening. And in addition to be five star wonderful, it’s five chili pepper hot. Red hot.
