You can very obviously hear the mechanics in him moving when he talks. Also, his head seems pretty fragile, though we haven't had any problems with it breaking. His bottom "base" isn't flat, so he wobbles around a lot. He's not soft, his fur is soft, but his body is hard. He hasn't gotten dirty yet, so I dunno how hard he is to clean, but he can't be machine washed. For adults, the laughing feature can get annoying. It would also be great if there was a way to securely close the backpack for travel. We've lost a cookie because there is no latch.

My son (2 years old) loves him though, he carries him all over by Cookie's eyes, it would have been better if maybe there was a handle on Cookie's backpack. The concept is so simple, I didn't even have to show my son how to use the toy. There are only 3 cookies and Cookie himself only counts up to 3. I wish they had made him count up to 5 with 5 cookies, since I think 5 is a pretty natural number to stop at (5 fingers, 5 toes...) My son laughs at the burping, Cookie DOES say "excuse me" which is nice. It keeps his attention for a very long time. It's great to take along on doctor visits. It's not as large as most interactive stuffed animals, and fits nicely in my son's lap while he's in his stroller.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
My kids were thrilled with this as soon as it was out of the box. It's fun to play with, for what it does. It only does basically one thing though, so don't expect it to be a longstanding favorite toy or anything like that. You feed the cookies into Cookie Monster's mouth and he provides some commentary (including a loud burp). The cookies then pass into his backpack, and when they are all there he hints "maybe more cookies in backpack?" Fortunately it's not all that loud, so the annoyance factor for parents is pretty low. Any alleged educational value is severely overstated. I mean yes, you can count that there are three cookies, and I guess you could count how many times he eats then and then deposits them in his backpack, but...yeah there's really no educational value. They will definitely be bored with this toy by the end of the week, if not sooner, but for right now it's a hit. Accordingly, I think this toy would be best at a grandparent's house or in a waiting room or something, where it can captivate for a short time as needed and be put away and revisited later before the novelty wears off.

My son got this Cookie Monster for his 2nd birthday, and he absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it's not very durable. It's been less than two months, and it's broken already. Cookie's mouth no longer opens and closes on its own, and it doesn't recognize when cookies are dropped into its mouth. Full disclosure --- my son liked to manually open and close his mouth when playing with it, so I'm sure that's what eventually broke it. But, when the description says "18+ months" you have to expect that a child would like to do that. Disappointing that it no longer works.

The "Count and Crunch Cookie Monster" is a toy that is a bit of a novelty. Cookie Monster comes with three cookies that are fed to cookie monster one-at-a-time. Tehecookies then fall into Cookie's backpack and are ready to be eaten again. In terms of educational value - it is pretty limited since Cookie will only count up to three- so don't expect Cookie to help your child with Algebra.

One note - if you Cookie Monster seems to be working incorrectly double-check because it may be in demo or "Try Me" mode.

A Few Details

- Cookie Monster only comes with three cookies, so try not to lose any of them, since they can not be replaced.

- Cookie Monster has about 6 or seven phrases that he repeats - just enough to keep this Cookiee from getting stale.

- Comes with 4 AA batteries

- One volume setting

- Cookie Monster is very soft, but not too cuddly

- The bottom of Cookie Monster is curved, so whenever he laughs (or eats) he rocks back and forth.

Final Verdict - Cookie Monster is a fun toy, but it he doesn't offer lot of staying power. I would still recommend the to any toddler who enjoys Cookie Monster and/or Sesame Street.

My son's special instructor recommended this. He's 2.5 years old and we're working on catching up his speech delay. Something about Cookie Monster clicks for him and makes him want to talk--at least to imitate his sounds. He likes to feed Cookie Monster the cookies that comes with it and also offers him circle-shaped real foods that we eat around the house, like crackers.

I do notice he tries to play mind games with Cookie Monster, namely by holding a cookie in his open throat to see exactly where he's triggering the sensor. Cookie Monster holds out and keeps asking for the cookie (doesn't falsely think he's eaten it when my son still has it, so the kid never gets to have his GOTCHA! moment). I don't know why my son does this to him, though! He's testing him.

Other times, he cradles Cookie Monster and says "baby!" He thinks all toys that are smaller than some other version of the toy or character are babies.

All in all, can't beat the fun he's gotten out of the toy for the price. His speech therapist, occupational therapist, and special instructor all thought it was a good choice.
