About the Author

Kelly Collins writes with theintention of keeping the love alive. Always a romantic, she is inspired byreal-time events mixed with a dose of fiction. She encourages her readers toreach the happily ever after but bask in the afterglow of the perfectly imperfectlove.

Kelly lives in Colorado at thebase of the Rocky Mountains with her husband of twenty-fiveyears, their two dogs, and a bird that hates her.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking the trails and visiting the mining towns like CrippleCreek. Could be there is gambling there, but she likes to think it's theambience that brings her there and not the amazing slot machine in the back ofthe casino.

In the winter, you'll find hertucked into her seat at The World Arena cheering her beloved Colorado CollegeTigers Hockey Team.  After several losing seasons she knows there's a wincoming soon.  Kelly is no fair weather fan. Tigers to the death.

She has three amazing children, and she wonders how they all turned out to be engineers when only the creativeside of her brain seems to work. She just chalks it up to the engineering genesher husband contributed to the mix.
Creative minds needan outlet and writing books is where she focuses her excess energy.

I received an ARC for an honest review. I also bought the book. It's really good. A true second chance story for both the hero and heroine. The book opens with Mickey leaving prison after a one year stint for what basically amounted to threats and vandalism but was pushed along by the lies of a 'witness'. She's going home to her ranch which should be running smoothly with cattle, cowboys, a manager, money in the bank...No one picked her up so she walked until a stranger stopped and offered her a ride. Mitt turns out he's Detective Kerrick McKinley. He's hot but a cop! But hey nice enough to take Mickey to the store, pay for her groceries when her accounts are denied, drives her home, sees the wreck of her home's interior with nasty graffiti on the wall. No cows, no commands, yard overgrown, house needs paint, just a mess. Looks like her manager ex-fiance fleeced her. Kendrick sets himself up as her protector. Even though they both feel a strong attraction, neither is truly comfortable moving beyond just sex...yet. So what is Mickey going to do with her 'ranch'. With Kerrick. Is her former fiance, Morgan, a threat? You bet! How much? Read the book! Mickey isn't meek anymore...

Received this book for an honest review.

This is my first book by Ms. Collins and I enjoyed it immensely. Never having read this particular series I did not know what to expect. My thought that this book was going to be about surviving death or a bad situation, it was nothing of the kind.

In Set Free you have a young woman getting out of prison after a year thinking that not much in her life is going to change. She ended up going to prison over her own actions and the lie of another.

Mickey has always had a man taking care of her even when it was not always in her best interest. She made decisions by the seat of her pants without questioning things to deeply and this lands her in dire straight once she is out of prison.

In prison she became friends with a group of women who helped her grow in the year she was incarcerated. These women became like her sisters and she can’t wait for them to get release.

Upon release and having no way home she meets Kerrick. Will he be her right know man or her future? He will play an important part in the choices she makes about her future.

She will have to reconcile her past before she can truly embrace her future. This book was well worth reading and I look forward to the next book in the series “Set Aside”.

The characters were fleshed out and the dialogue flowed well. I guess I'm just not use to the hero of the book not knowing his mind. His vacillating emotions was enough to give me whiplash. To say he's a detective and is supposed to be a dominant, he sure acted like a wimp when it came to his feelings for the heroine. Instead of it crating angst as the author probably intended, it just made him look weak and made me skip over a few chapters to get to the end of the book. I can't say that I'll read the other books of this series or any more books by this author.

>Book Review - Set Free -

>This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. I am an independent reviewer. This book is the first story in the Second Chance series and ends in an HEA.

>Mickey was a ranch girl raised with all men in a harsh environment. She wasn't used to being treated like a princess. Her background explains why she accepts an abusive relationship with her father's ranch foreman, Morgan. Beaten to a pulp, Mickey slashes Morgan's tires and somehow is the one sent to prison. Returning home after her year in prison, Mickey catches a ride with Kerrick, a stranger to her, but a protective one.

>Kerrick falls for Mickey fast. He is a detective and divorced. Both issues cause him to hold back from Mickey. The tension between the two was intense, but the push and pull, will they or won't they was exhausting. Kerrick was a great alpha male. He was thoughtful, kind and dominating. Mickey started out kind of luke warm, but as she gained her self esteem back, she was worthy of Kerrick. I especially enjoyed Kerrick's brothers. I would have liked a few more scenes getting to know them, even though I suspect we will see them in future books. I felt I knew more about the skanky cashier than the brothers.

>I did not like the story line involving Mr. Darcy. I won't reveal any spoilers, just stating my opinion. Other than that small part, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters sucked you in quickly and there was enough suspense and action to keep the pages turning or swiping, if you have an e reader. There was a bit a humor, especially in how Mickey described her cell mates to Kerrick. This book is appropriate for an adult audience due to sexual situations. I am giving this book 4 stars.
