That aside, I was really looking forward to this book. This is a book about second chances and moving on from loss. Morganna and Steven have been friends since they were 12 years old. Steven is a Navy SEAL and Morganna is a hot shot divorce attorney. When Morganna went to visit Steve after law school she met Stone (who was Steves friend and also a Navy SEAL) and fell in love hard and fast. They married but after a few years Stone was killed overseas. Steven had always been there for Morganna and when she decided it was time to date again, he realized it was time to tell her his true feelings and to fight for the chance to be more than just friends. There were a lot of flashbacks in the book back to childhood as well as her time with Stone. The author did an awesome job of making me fall in love with Stone (all over again, since I loved him and was heartbroken by his death in "Crazy Good") and also love Steven. And what isn't to love about Steven, he is a funny, loyal, and caring alpha male that is crazy HOT. I liked to see their friendship when they were younger and how she really let herself be herself when she was with Steve. Morganna wasn't a hot shot, icy cold b**** when she was with him. I liked how the author let me as a reader see all the characters for who they are and what they were going through.
I knew Set in Stone was going to be a book that left me in a book comma, where I would be thinking about the characters for days just like Rachel Robinson did in Crazy Good. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a real, true and hard fought love story. It isn't easy and it is heartbreaking but it is a story full of love and hope.
Now I hope the Rachel Robinson will keep giving us more. I loved seeing Maverick from the first book and would love for her to continue on so we can keep seeing these characters she made us love so much!
Watching all that heartbreak and darkness turn to love instead of bitterness was a great story and probably based on a lot of truth. Military wives and families go through so much struggle and hardship in the ever ongoing devotion to their service members. The losses can turn your whole world upside down and make you bitter, jaded and scared. I am so glad this story showed the realities, good and bad, and showed how strength and love can prevail in the end.
Great writing, great author, and I cannot wait to see what Rachel has for us next.
Standalone though part of a series and reading book 1 will make this book even better.
Told from both POVs
Only minor editing issues.
First I need to say that I cried like a baby when I read the last book. I mean like ugly cry. You know what I'm talking about. I really thought I was gonna get through this book without the breakdown but it got me. (In an amazing way)
This book hooks you from the first page and you can't put it down. I literally found myself reading this as a I walked to meetings, during lunch, basically any free moment I had. It captivates you and guts you at times.
The story was told so well with just a hint of drama and the character development made you fall in love with both of them.
I can't imagine trying to move on after the love of your life does but the author did such a great job of showing her inner turmoil and Steve trying to compete with a ghost.
The ending was AMAZING! I bawled... Like a baby! What an amazing way to end it.
The only thing I am sad about is another book wasn't set up. I pray this isn't the last we hear from this author for this series. Both books are just too good for me to be ok with not getting another dose of Seal hotness.
I need more!!!! Please!!!!!!!!
