My old exhaust had gotten rather rusty over the years of used in the snow and salt filled travels, so I needed a new exhaust system. I ordered the exhaust for a great price, and waited anxiously in the mail for it to arrive.
When it had arrived, it had arrived scratched and damaged. One call from Amazon support and the problem was resolved. A few days later I was off to make my visit to the mechanic to have it installed.
All the pieces fit great in my trunk so I was able to bring it to the shop with no problems.
This system can be welded or clamped, they provide the clamps and even a bracket adapter. You also get a pacesetter logo sticker!
I had it welded, which they had to sand off some of the rust resistant paint, I was able to use some high temp rustoleum spray-paint afterwards to re-coat it.
It took the shop about 2 hours to remove and install the new exhaust, this included all the welds and my being very picky about the placement of the two tips.
The stock photograph shows those ugly yellow lines, I did not receive those. My tips were pure chrome.
After the install, and first startup it smoked really bad, and had a horrible odor. It was the smell of all the paint and whatnot burning in. The smell was gone after the first day.
Looks:
The dual tips give the Grand Am/Alero a mean look. They look really good on an SE version, and are an improvement visually on a GT. The black and chrome seem to match well with any color that I have looked at, and the fit is near perfect. The mechanics only had a few issues getting it fit perfectly.
Sound:
The sound a everything I wanted. It is not terribly loud. You can hear it when it is revved, and it does have a drone at highways speeds. It loud enough to get you noticed, but not loud enough to get you in trouble unless you red line it for every stop light.
Since my car has added performance mods, I am not sure if the powerband will be the same, but it seems to be the loudest from 2000-2200. Just my observation. It can get loud around 1000rpm depending on which gear your in, and it can have a bit of a drone with the windows down.
With the windows up it is noticeable but not terrible.
Performance:
The exhaust seems to have given me an overall improvement performance wise. The most noticeable is during highways speeds/passing speeds. The extra air flow makes an improvement in those higher RPMs.
I am satisfied as a customer, and would purchase and/or recommend to another.
It is closing in on winter, and I will update with the amount of rust it builds up during the winter.
