About the Author

Mary McAvoy lives in Massachusetts where she is busy writing in her favorite theme, the profound influence of love. In her books, Mary explores love's driving impact on an individual's life (Love's Compass), love's power over death (The Setting of the Sun), the infectious nature of love (Love, Topaz) and the devastating ripple effect of a single moment without love (as yet, untitled). Love, Topaz will be released in 2013. Mary's first full-length novel, it is the delightful story of a young writer, Jerome, and his muse (and love), Topaz, who he sneaks into a writers retreat - resulting in much excitement and tension as the infections nature of the young couple's love begins to seep from their room and into the hearts and lives of the guests of the writer's retreat and the residents of the fictitious northern Virginia village of Weeping Willow, where the story takes place. Mary's second full-length novel, due for publication in 2014, is a darker story that shows the devastating impact on the psyches and hearts of its characters that is the result of one moment absent of love.

Format: Paperback
There are some writers who just have a gift for telling a good story, and in so doing find the right word, or turn of phrase, to illuminate plot and character. Mary McAvoy is such a writer, and in her short novella, ‘The Setting of the Sun’, she shows just how it should be done. This book is a delight to read, and to read again, because it draws you in, little by little, until you find yourself in world of delicate marvels. The tale told is a parable of love, and an embrace of life and the enduring mystery of its meaning. I should add that a beautiful poem, which figures prominently in the plot, and appears at the close of the tale, could very well stand on its own in the pages of a poetry journal. It's marvelous. But I suggest that you read "The Setting of the Sun' to find out for yourself. You will not regret it.
