Purchase options and add-ons
Whether it’s asking tough questions during a presidential debate or pressing for answers to today’s most important issues, Megyn Kelly has demonstrated the intelligence, strength, common sense, and courage that have made her one of today’s best-known journalists, respected by women and men, young and old, Republicans and Democrats.
In Settle for More, the NBC News anchor reflects on the enduring values and experiences that have shaped her—from growing up in a family that rejected the "trophies for everyone" mentality, to her father’s sudden, tragic death while she was in high school. She goes behind-the-scenes of her career, sharing the stories and struggles that landed her in the anchor chair and taught her to ask the tough questions. Speaking candidly about her decision to "settle for more"—a motto she credits as having dramatically transformed her life at home and at work—Megyn discusses how she abandoned a thriving legal career to follow her journalism dreams.
Admired for her hard work, humor, and authenticity, Megyn sheds light on the news business, her time at Fox News, the challenges of being a professional woman and working mother, and her most talked about television moments. She also speaks openly about Donald Trump’s feud with her, revealing never-before-heard details about the first Republican debate, its difficult aftermath, and how she persevered through it all.
Deeply personal and surprising, Settle for More offers unparalleled insight into this charismatic and intriguing journalist, and inspires us all to embrace the principles—determination, honesty, and fortitude in the face of fear—that have won her fans across the political divide.

From the Back Cover
In the three years since her show The Kelly File premiered on the Fox News Channel, Megyn Kelly has cemented her reputation as one of the most respected, hardest-hitting journalists in America. Tackling issues from both sides of the aisle, live on prime time five nights a week, Megyn has embraced difficult questions and pressed for real answers, redefining the face of news for her more than two million regular viewers.
Now, in her debut book, Megyn goes behind the scenes of the stories and the storms that landed her in the anchor chair of the most successful news broadcast in cable news. Having grown up in a family whose values rejected the “trophies for everyone” mentality, Megyn traces the experiences that shaped her professional ascent—from her father’s sudden, tragic death while she was still in high school to the events that propelled her rise in journalism.
Speaking candidly about her decision to “settle for more”—a motto she credits as having dramatically transformed her life at home and at work—Megyn discusses how she abandoned a thriving legal career to follow her dream in the news business. Through her unique blend of hard work, humor, and authenticity, she has won fans across the political divide.
Megyn also opens up about the controversy that made her, unwillingly, one of America’s most-talked-about public figures, giving her side of Donald Trump’s feud with her while sharing never-before-heard details about the first Republican debate and how she was able to persevere through the difficult aftermath. In addition, Megyn sheds light on the challenges she has faced as a professional woman and working mother, revealing her approach to issues of gender in the workplace, as well as how her success is rooted in the adage “Be so good they can’t ignore you.”
What emerges is a deeply personal and surprising account of her life, one that inspires men and women, young and old, Republicans and Democrats, to embrace the values of determination, honesty, and courage in the face of fear. At once funny and uplifting, Settle for More offers unparalleled insight into one of the most charismatic and intriguing television personalities of her generation.About the Author

I am involved in social media — FB and Instagram — but though I have a Twitter account, I don’t use it or pay attention to it or all the tweeters out there. So, I was really surprised to learn how much Trump and Trump followers bullied her and scared her family. I am a Fox News watcher and have supported Trump. I actually think he did good things as President. I have never appreciated his rhetoric though, and never felt compelled to support that part of his character. After reading Megyn’s book I have a better insight now as to why he is so despised by so many.
I thought Megyn did a good job at shining a light on that part of Trump and doing it in a matter of fact way and not like a crazed person out to defame Trump or add to all the negativity and divisiveness we are faced with today. Funny, I bought this book awhile back and just now decided to read it. I think it was the right time and I am glad I did. It is easier to hear the truth about a political person or media mogul from the personal insights and experiences of a person telling their story and at the same time being gracious enough to the people she is speaking of so as not to rip them to shreds or steal all their dignity. I appreciated that. Megyn can communicate what is clearly bad behavior while not making the person out to be a complete devil undeserving of life or a second thought. We seem to as a society have forgotten how to do that. There is too much demonizing and wanting to crush those we disapprove of. I enjoyed the personal story here, and the gracious sharing of facts without being incendiary about those to who part of her story.
Hope to see more of you, Megyn!
I don't usually watch the Kelly File... I find the world of Fox News a bubble with right wing media and fake news from Facebook a bubble within a bubble. I liked the book though and here are my thoughts:
There is a section in the book on sexual harassment in the workplace. It is well written and offers hope to many people out there that have had to endure similar situations. It takes courage to stand up for whats right and it helps to right many wrongs... such encouragement was provided clearly in the book. Megyn is also unapologetic about being feminist (although she does not like the word feminist because it is apparently conflated with castration). Many women see feminism as a movement of gender equality not a movement of female domination. Not sure if this view of female domination is limited to republicans because my liberal friends don't feel like they need to castrate anyone in order to become equal. The confusion here is frankly baffling, but everyone is free to interpret as they wish and should be allowed to without judgement, which is how Megyn leaves it. There is acknowledgement in the book about Hillary's nomination being something to be proud of... which I hope is something more women will come to believe.
I understand that Megyn is a journalist, but the lines between fact and fiction seem blurred... I wonder if much of this comes from a career in law making her more of a lawyer than a journalist in the way she perceives her job. I wonder if arguing for both sides or being open minded (so open minded that your brain falls out as some would say) makes one start to believe that their particular fiction is now fact. I strongly believe that "the truth is the truth, even if no one believes it and lies are lies even if everyone believes them". When equal time is given to two arguments, it may mean that both arguments have equal merit. When a "journalist" consistently refuses to question merit... it is difficult to say that they did their job ethically.
Megyn went in to work for Fox not as a Republican or a Democrat. Even if someone goes in to work for Fox being an independent thinker... the echo chamber there could arguable change the person. Such is the bubble of Fox that criticism from Jon Stewart (and I remember watching the particular segment) was dismissed without any insightful thinking in the book. The segment on the Daily Show showed a pattern of thought culminating in the stance post childbirth of women needing maternity leave only after the issue personally affected her. Sure Megyn may never have wanted the government to provide that, but doesn't that ignore the "fates" of millions of women whose employers do not offer the same benefits that Fox offered Megyn? Isn't this the point Stewart was making... and if so, why is that mean? Dick Cheney ignored the plight of gay and lesbians until his own daughter came out and then he was all for equality. Why must half the population fail to empathize until something personally happens to them? There can be no copout by saying "journalism" as if it is a safe word every time something difficult is on the table and one need to take a proper stand.
The grit and determination in getting where she is now is impressive. To read a story of someone working to get where they are is always inspiring and I hope many women will be inspired. But here too the liberal-conservative divide becomes apparent. If at an extreme a conservative is all about personal responsibility... that is the stance that Megyn takes. She clearly seems to find all her successes a result of her personal convictions and work. I do not doubt that in the least. The advice she has for women out there that feel "passed over" is to just work harder... excellence will help you rise about the pack.. there is a capitalistic argument there (your boss will not deny you your promotion if you only excel!). Facts do not support this hypothesis because it would mean that less than 5% of women in business are working hard since only less than 5% have become CEO's of fortune 500 companies. Whether we like it or not... for every Megyn that worked hard and made it big... there are a 100 or a 1000 Megyn's that didn't and there are a 100 or a 1000 "Joe's" that did while not really working as hard. Gender bias is real... maybe we shouldn't become victims but to offer "personal responsibility" as the most important factor in success ignores the reality of the workplace. In this section, a more data driven insight may have led to a complete narrative.
Finally, there was one sentence in the book that frankly annoyed me. A flippant comment about how Megyn's three year old child could have negotiated a better deal with Iran than John Kerry. This is one of the main reasons intelligent and informed people don't like to watch Fox News... this idea that a three year old who cannot find Iran on a map would be superior to a qualified Secretary of State in negotiating an important international agreement is the reason we have an orange president elect. The damaging rhetoric at Fox is almost in every cell of every important person that works at Fox. They obviously believe all of it and are rightly in their bubble of Bullshit Mountain. For a while a couple of months ago I wondered if Megyn would sign with Fox for another year.. now I know... she cannot possible go anywhere else. She is firmly at home.
