I'm so glad I decided to take the job.
Yes, this is a book about death, but it is so much more than that. It is about moving out of our circle of comfort, dealing with difficult subjects and circumstances, and learning about being honest with ourselves and others. It's about getting through the "tough stuff," despite what we comprehend as our weaknesses, and becoming more centered, resilient, and complete. It's about finding out we are stronger than we think we are. It's about being happy about who we are.
The story is constructed beautifully, and Dian writes with a raw honesty that lets us experience both her pain and the emotional growth that came out of it.
Dian's story is a true-life example of one of my favorite philosophies: It's not what life hands us that makes us who we are, it's what we do with what life hands us.
Having lost both parents at an early age, I needed
help dealing with their illnesses and eventual loss.
Dian (author) put into words what I could never express.
I will read this book again!!
The author makes you feel like you are with her through every thought and feeling that she experiences as she faces her father's illness and eventual death. Having experienced a loved on facing cancer, I can appreciate the author's candidness and honesty. Going in, I was worried that it would be depressing or hard to read and it wasn't that way for me at all. I was able to relate my experience with hers through laughter, honesty and a few tears, but mostly I found it comforting to go on this journey with her. Her writing style makes this a quick read and you feel like you are sitting there with her the entire time.
There was so much emotion, heart, and depth in Dian's story, and it touched me deeply. (So much so that I'm now crying -- again -- as I write this.)
Anyone who's had struggle in their life will be inspired by the resilience Dian displays through her story. This novel is a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
