Review

"Charlotte Howard weaves a down-to-earth story about Paige Holmes, a young woman who survived trauma and now must choose between two men: the safe one, or the one who provides danger and excitement. Howard shows us the internal dialogue and daily life of her protagonist, but moves the story along to its surprising conclusion.

This novel is definitely one worth reading!"  - Robin Tidwell, Publisher

From the Author

Seven Dirty Words is the first book of Paige's story. She hides herself in a masculine world, playing rugby, working for a mechanic, and living with her brother and his best-friend.

During a rugby match she meets Vance Ellery. He's tall, dark, and smouldering, earning him the nickname of TDS. He's also older than she is. Like a pair of stilettos, he's sexy with a dangerous air.

Then she meets Matt Jackson. Handsome and rich, but closer to her own age, he shows his feelings for Paige early on. It doesn't take long for Paige to realise that he is as safe and comfortable as a pair of slippers.

But Paige has a secret. How will either of the men react when they find out her truth? Which one will she choose - Stilettos or Slippers?

Paige's story continues in Four Letter Words (due to be released in early 2014) - she's made her choice, but is it the right one?

They say not to judge a book by the cover and in this case it is very true. I came to this story thinking it was about some poor, helpless, abused woman—the cover clearly shows a bruised, woeful woman, one who was physically hurt--but that is not the case. Yes, Paige has had trauma in her life but she is not poor, nor helpless, and although she does get bumps and bruises, that is because she is a tough chick, a Tomboy who likes it rough—in more ways than one. Although she may have “Daddy” issues, in my opinion, her troubles are mostly self-inflicted. She is a likable character, but really messed up emotionally, and I found I could not relate to her very much because she seemed to do exactly the opposite of what I would do. Of course, that may be why I lead a relatively boring life and not an exciting one like Paige. If nothing else her life is never boring!

We all have our baggage to carry, but Paige seems to have too much of it and not enough hands to handle it all. And in all this, she hooks up—in a rather steamy, explicit manner-- with not one, but two gorgeous men, one safe and one not so safe, adding to her emotional turmoil. You'd think she'd learn, wouldn't you? Well, she makes her choices—the good, the bad and the super hot sexy-- and lives with them. At least she has fun through it all and invites you to watch! A fun read if you want to know how the other non-boring half live.

I loved the main character, Paige. She was really easy to relate to and the story as a whole was fast-paced and super easy to get into. I've been struggling more to get into books lately but it was really hard to put this one down! I was really surprised by a few of the plot points and the ending of the book. Howard gives some great descriptions and not all of her wording is cliched or overused by other authors like in some books -- her voice feels fresh and new. Can't wait 'til the sequel!

Seven Dirty Words is one of the best novels that I have read in a long time. Paige Holmes is easy to identify with because so many women have been in a similar situation. Her story unfolds like a dirty napkin as she fights the people around her to find her voice and those who feel the need to run her life. Her family and friends find her predicament off-putting and that does not surprise her; after all, she is more than a little confused by her decisions as well.

Charlotte Howard is a crafty writer who has officially won my heart. I will read more of her novels including the sequel to Seven Dirty Words. The novel deserves five stars, but be careful, it gets a little slippery in there.

This is my first read by Charlotte V. Howard and it will not be my last! Seven Dirty Words is sweet and hot and will pull you in quickly. The story revolves around Paige - she is from a wealthy family, who cusses like a sailor on liberty, but is just coming back to life after being raped. She has thrown her life into kickboxing, working out, playing rugby. She has finally be able to find some bit of peace and moved into a house with her brother and his friend. While playing rugby one day she literally falls at the feet of Vance.

Vance Ellery - whom she labels TDS, jump starts her what she thought was dead libido. Vance is an older man who knows what he wants and is used to getting it. Paige puts up a fight - Vance doesn't like being told no and their adventure begins.

Around the same time she meets another man, a man more appropriate to her age and she like him as well. Matt is a restaurateur, has money and he starts to pursue Paige as well. Didn't see the twist coming on Matt! Paige falls for both men, when the time comes for choices it will not be easy. Who will Paige confide all her secret past to - Vance or Matt?

A time or 3 I wanted to shake Paige and get her to make a decision sooner. Ms. Howard's writing is fluid and her characters are well defined and will keep on your toes guessing who Paige will end up with. I wonder if this the ending is a HEA or not - I hear rumors there is a sequel in the works. I hope so! Not only do I want to see where Paige and the man she finally chooses go, but hope to see some of the supporting characters come into their own as well.

If you are looking for a lovely steamy, English (I will mention this because - my children caught me talking with a wee English Accent), contemporary romance. I highly recommend Seven Dirty Words.

I couldn't put this book down! I had to make myself go to asleep and finish it this morning! I had to find out who Paige would choose or if she decided to choose either Tall,Dark and Smoldering Hunk of Burning Love! Paige is a emotionally and physically wounded 27 yr old who is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after a horrible life altering experience. I really enjoyed the British terms and I had to keep reminding myself that "pants" mean "underwear or panties" not pants in the American sense ie jeans, trousers etc. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel "Four Letter Words" so I can see where Paige's journey takes her. Charlotte Howard you are A Wonderfully, Talented Writer and I will gladly read anything you write!
