The book starts out strongly, with Anna arriving in New Zealand from Mt Tamborine in southeast Queensland, seeking her birth mother after the death of her devious and cold father. Gorgeous Slade (this is a romance so how could he be anything else, bless him!) confronts Anna at her hotel, just as she is deciding how to go about approaching Megan. She is astonished to discover that Slade is the stepson of her birth mother, and accompanies him to his home, eager to find out what happened when she was born and to meet Megan.
Expecting a somewhat fraught but hopefully, not antagonistic, reception, Anna is hurt and enraged by a distinctly nasty encounter with the senior members of Slade's family.
For me, this novel fell away for awhile at this point, because the ruse which Slade proposes to Anna and which she accepts, becomes unnecessary when every one in the family knows about it. I don't want to give a spoiler, so I will say that I certainly finished the book and didn't dislike it, but was confused by who did what to whom, who knew what and why they did what they did! The ending is satisfactory, of course, so I was happy about that!
I will definitely read more from this author :)
