About the Author

J.L. Mac is twenty-something years old and currently resides in El Paso, Texas, where she enjoys living near her parents and siblings. She was born and raised in Galveston, Texas. J.L. admittedly has had a long and sordid love affair with the written word and has loved every minute of it. She drinks too many glasses of wine on occasion, and says way too many swear words to be considered "lady-like." J.L. spends her free time reading, writing, and playing with her two young children.

This book was a little tedious for me. Too many pages wasted on descriptions for my taste. I kept having to forward through pages to actually get to the interactions between characters. I guess I just like more interaction & less inner dialog. Especially when that inner dialog doesn't always help move the story forward. Or that she spent an entire paragraph talking about how hot her and her girlfriend were and that other women hated them because they were beautiful. Then her and her friend get into a bar fight because of an ugly girl hating on their beauty. I just didn't feel connected to Kat. At first I felt bad for her but as the book went on I cared less and less about whether she got what she wanted. She started sounding more spoiled, immature and narcicistic than someone who had had trama in her life. How can a person go through that much stuff and not be a little broken and humble?

Seven Years of Bad Luck started off very promising. You meet 26 year-old Kat who is home alone while her husband Aidan is on a "business trip". While Aidan is away, Kat come to the conclusion she wants a divorce from her husband who has had more affairs than she can count. She finally has courage to leave him and tells him pretty much the moment he walks through the door. I didn't know the character of Kat very well yet but I was proud she finally had the balls to kick Aidan to the curb.

Kat moves to Dallas to start a new life, single. Her best friend Cheyenne comes with her and two are both trying to start fresh as divorcees. Kat meets a HOT domineering man in a bookstore named Ben. The two meet a few more times in strange ways and I was starting to think that Ben was a stalker or had something up his sleeve. I really wasn't sure of him at first. Kat and Ben begin a very intense relationship very quickly. Ben is a very domineering man, not Christian Grey domineering but Ben is bossy towards Kat. I usually do not like men telling me where to sleep or sit or eat but I found it very sexy with Ben, especially in the bedroom. The book has some erotic scenes but I would not file this book under erotica.

As quickly as their relationship comes together it quickly falls apart. There is a bit of a crime/mystery in the book but I honestly found that part of the book confusing and boring. I understand there has to be some drama involved in the book but I think the author could have kept the drama on Aidan and him trying to win Kat back when she is dating Ben now. I found the men in the story to be more interesting and I was starting to really like Aidan by the end of the book.

The ending was sweet but predictable.

A good read but I over looked the grammatical errors because they didn't spoil the experience. I wish the author had stayed writing about the relationship with Kat,Aidan and Ben and hadn't veered of track with the villains. Cheyenne and her boyfriends world would have made an interesting diversion too rather than the aforementioned. All in all having only paid less than a dollar I got far more value for my money than expected. I did enjoy the book especially the first chapter when Kat comes into her own and focuses on her future. I warmed to Aidan the loveable cad even though he deserved what he got. Ben the new love interest is dominant but kind a conquest for Kat to master. There are parts of this story I skimmed through because I found thought dialogue interrupted the flow and didn't feel the criminal content relevant. All in all a good read and great value for your money.

*This book was given to me for a fair and honest review*

Kathleen “Kat” Cooper has bad luck. After years of enduring the worst, she kicks her cheating, lying husband to the curb and decides to start over hoping the luck will finally be on her side. Enter Ben Cooper, charming, powerful and sexy – Kat falls into his life in a bad way and they can not stay apart. Ben is out to change Kat’s streak of bad luck once and for all…. and win her heart in the process.

I am going to be honest saying this book had a slow start for me. I almost gave up. I found Kat to be a wimp, a perpetual nice girl too afraid to get out of a bad situation. She blamed too much on luck and not enough on her cheating ass of a husband. Who cares how sexy he looks at her? If he’s dipping his wick into someone else’s wax, he needs to be kicked in the nuts then thrown out of her life. I will admit that I put my Kindle down a few times and walked away because I was so irritated. I really like J.L.’s writing so I kept going back to try again. And then, suddenly, I hit a point where I could not put the story down. It was not very far in, probably exactly when Ben entered the picture.

Oh my, Ben. All that and more…yum, yum. Sexy, alpha yummy Ben. I am so glad I hung in with the story and got to meet him. As he became a more prominent character I began to like Kat better. Hell, I think she even liked herself better once he came into her life. Did she mess up again? YUP. But she managed to redeem herself so I actually began to feel for her. It may have taken most of the book but that is good for me. It kept me reading and fed my interest to see if it was possible.

Give Seven Years of Bad Luck a try. If you get irritated like I did, wait for Ben. He will make it all better ;-)
