First, I want to say that I have hard water. Just absolutely terrible water. There's so much iron bacteria in my water that it stains all my sinks and toilets pink.

When I decided that I wanted to 'go green' I went through a process of trying all the various eco dishwasher detergent. It was a trial by fire for sure. Not only would my dishes not be clean, but there would be a white film on everything. It was very disappointing, because not only were the products not working, but they were also expensive.

These Seventh Generation auto dish pacs actually work! I don't even need to use jet dry. No residue on my dishes and the dishes are clean. When I used to use cascade, my dishes did not get as clean as these did, and I would have to use jet dry with cascade.

If you're having trouble with getting your dishes clean, I recommend you read how to properly load a dishwasher. It sounds basic, but a lot of people don't know how. Here's a website that can help: [...]
Also, you may want to try Ecover brand tablets (not the powder), which I've also had great success with.

**Cost**
At the end of the day, it all comes down to cost. So many of these eco friendly cleaning products are really expensive, so lets compare the prices:

Cascade: $0.21 each
Ecover: $0.26 each
Seventh Generation: $0.27 each
Method: $0.35 each

So with Seventh Generation you pay about $0.06 more on each tablet than you would with cascade. In my opinion it's worth it because Seventh Generation gets the dishes cleaner than cascade. Also, cascade tends to leave a film on the dishes, and if you're concerned about toxins and carcinogens, you may not want to be digesting that.

Seventh Generation Auto Dish Pacs, Free & Clear is a great product. The individual pacs are clean and easy to dispense - no messy spills or worries about over-filling the reservoir.

This product works very well! I have very hard water, and many dishwashing detergents do not work in my dishwasher, but Seventh Generation Auto Dish Pacs, Free & Clear does a great job.

I love the fact that the product both works well AND cuts down on the pollution of our environment. I use mostly eco-friendly products to clean, and I am very impressed with Seventh Generation Auto Dish Pacs, Free & Clear.

This is a product that I will definitely be purchasing in the future!

Having moved from the Midwest to the Northeast, I've discovered this -- that dishwasher detergent behaves differently depending on the washer and the water. Moved from a super-hard water place with a six-year-old dishwasher (we used Trader Joe's powder to very good effect) to a place with an older dishwasher and water that is less hard. The TJ's powder left a residue on everything. Cascade did the same. Just bought a bag of these, and they are a miracle for our current situation. Not only are the dishes super-clean, the residue from the TJ powder and Cascade is coming off our dishes.

We always use white vinegar as a rinse aid.

Lesson learned -- with each new place and new washer, just keep trying things out until you find something that works. I'm buying these in bulk now.

First, I just want to say that I support Seventh Generation and the philosophy behind their products. I have maybe a half dozen of their products in my home and have had zero complaints with any of them; that is, until these dishwasher packs.

After using a box worth (15 or 16 loads), I would estimate it's cleaning effectiveness at maybe 65-70% to that of the Cascade packs that I used previously. In my experience, these just didn't clean as well and demanded pre-cleaning before placing; an act that the Cascade did not need. Once dried, there was also a minimal, but pervasive film on the majority of the items. This would require either a post-wash wipe or a complete rinsing and drying.

The benefit of minimizing/eliminating some chemicals/etc has NOT been worth the extra cleaning effort involved when using these particular packs. Quite frankly, using this product has been a pain in the ass. I'm going back to the Cascade in the meantime, but will continue to look for more natural products that do NOT make this particular task more difficult.

After a week of using this product every day in the dishwasher I noticed that much of the powder is left in the dispensing cup as well as the crevices of the dishwasher. The glasses were left filmy and looked rather cloudy. Dried powder granules were left on some of the bigger bowls. My son said the spoon tasted funny, even though he didn't know I was using a different detergent. His was an unsolicited statement. I couldn't taste it but it makes me wonder what is being left on the silverware?

I will not be using this product until the solution is better formulated. I know it's suppose to be good for the environment and easier on my septic system but that's why people aren't going green is because the products don't work. This product does not work.

I've used other products by this company and found them of good quality, so I was disappointed by the problems I had with this dishwasher detergent. The packages didn't fit correctly in the dispenser of my dishwasher, and what's more, about half the time they stuck to the dispenser and didn't dissolve completely, leaving powdered detergent caked onto dishes and the walls of the unit. I'll confess that I normally use a liquid detergent, so maybe I'd have this same complaint about other brands of this product category, but for me, this was a huge bust.
