Short Sci-Fi book poignantly illustrates why cutting corners when it comes to world-building is best avoided. Very good characterizations on both sides of the likeable/unlikeable equation made for some tense moments as the group try to determine their best means of survival as the world they have tried to manipulate falls apart around them. Book doesn't end with day "seventy" so be prepared to wonder what comes next as it ends on a cliffhanger. One I did enjoy!

When an alien race destroys several human worlds, they decide to try an experimental terraforming technique. It speeds up the process from years to just a few months. A team is sent to the new world to get it ready for the incoming refugees. They only have 70 days to get ready. That would be cutting it close but doable until things start to go wrong. Now the team has to find a way to survive until they someone comes. Hopefully it won't be those planet destroying aliens.

Even though this is just a short story, the author manages to pack a lot of story into its pages. While a lot is left for the reader to fill in, the author has provided enough detail to get a good picture. It takes real talent to deliver a tale so succinctly.

The characters could easily have supported a longer work. I enjoyed listening to the bicker about the terraforming process, what was safe, what wasn't, with the growing sense of doom either from the skies above or the earth below. Only a couple of "Huh?" moments where you have to say "I choose to enjoy it." The best judge of it, however, was that at the end of it, I wanted to see more interactions between these characters, a greater depth to the conflict than the short form could support. That's a pretty good sign.

This is a solid and enjoyable colonization story, with some interesting twists. I really enjoyed this story, and hope the author will write more stories in this universe- maybe even a follow up to this story.
