I've been a fan of BEQ for a long time, and this book doesn't disappoint. I'd rate the difficulty of these puzzles in the Thurs. - Saturday range of the NYT.

I'm an old guy, so some of the references to modern bands and pop culture are lost on me, but he generally gives you enough reasonable crosses to figure them out.

As he mentions in the introduction, if you're offended by certain off-color words, you might not want to buy it. Not a problem for me. Language fascinates me. It's not like he's taking a poop in your living room.

These puzzles are so much fun!! Obviously one can derive from the title that words and themes related to the title are included. B.E.Q. puzzles are always a delight and a challenge and these are even more so since the creator has no restrictions as far as subject and word choice are concerned. Creating any crossword puzzle with it's built in restrictions is an amazing feat to me and B.E.Q. is a master of the craft.
However, if quite offensive language bothers you at all, these puzzles are not for you. If that is not the case, and you like a challenge, this book is for you! Each puzzle is a challenge.....I haven't found any that are easy. I enjoy them so much that I have put the book aside to save some for later!

These puzzles rock and/or roll. I've done some by myself, some with my 16-year-old daughter, and some with friends at work during lunch. A fun time was had by all. I would say they are Wed - Fri NYT tough (more or less in line with nickdeck's review), so they make you earn it, without tearing out too much hair. If you like NYT puzzles, you will probably love these.

The title is nothing but lies. This is just like any other crossword. "Not your grandma's crossword?" Because grandma would never know what a trump in a game of bridge is, or who Wyatt Earp was? This thing has a few more pop culture references than your average crossword but even those are pretty dated now and usually are more about TV shows than sex or drugs. (Hope you are into Night Court and That 70s Show reruns!)

I bought this book recently and have starting doing many puzzles, and even though I am not finished completely, there is something I would like to say:

BEQ is a MAJOR genius in the xword biz, and his versatility of talent as well as his quantity of output, puts him right there at the top. The first puzzle reminded me of Merl Reagle at his very best, and all the others continued to amaze me at their creative genius and variability.

I am going to have a lot more fun with this book for a looooooong time!

Love it! Not your Grandma's puzzles, but a great and challenging mix of "old" and "new." Clever and entertaining, you will probably find yourself "facepalming" at many of the answers.

My only complaint? I've almost solved them all, and can't wait for more.

You have to be Mensa smart to finish these puzzles or have a laptop nearby to solve them. I'm a decent crossword solver and have been doing them for 40 years but I can't even come close to finishing some of them. I may have a skewed take on crosswords but looking things up to me is a kind of cheating. If you are very, very bright this is the book for you.

Great collection of Brendan's best challenges. I couldn't put it down and sequestered myself for a few days until completed.
