About the Author
Meet Author Karen Jonson Nothing in my pre-guru years hinted at the direction my life would ultimately take. I had no clue that I would one day become a renounced Hindu nun living in the U.S. ashram of two men I called my gurus. Nor did I imagine that I would learn that they were nothing more than conmen dressed in orange clothing. I certainly never would have guessed I would one day expose their dark secrets to the world. But that is exactly what happened. My commitment to tell the truth led me down several new paths — including spilling secrets to a newspaper investigative reporter and FBI agent, organizing a support group of ex-devotee victims, sharing insider information with prosecuting attorneys, and starting a blog and Facebook page. The culmination of my effort was writing this book. My hope is that it will give readers a rare look inside this dangerous cult. It is shocking story of a spiritual con game, including what the gurus were actually doing behind closed bedroom doors, how they have ruined thousands of people’s lives, and why no one has stopped them from raping underage girls, stealing people’s money, and ruining people’s lives. Since its publication in 2012, my story has helped keep many people out of the cult's clutches — and I'm very grateful. Readers will find a fascinating book that is a thriller on the level of any dramatic story (yet, this story is real, proving that the truth can be stranger than fiction). It is also a true crime drama, proving insight of the legal process necessary to prosecute a slippery con man. And it is a cautionary tale for any person seeking spirituality from someone who professes to be God incarnate. While telling my story, I have been stalked and slandered by members of the Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat cult. At one point, I created the penname Rishika Xcult to keep my identity a secret. The irony of my penname is that it means "saintly" in Hindi. I lived in the ashram of two gurus who called themselves saints, yet were anything but saintly. Meanwhile, I actually gave up worldly pleasures in the pursuit of God. As a result, I lived a more saintly life than the two men who call themselves saints. But on my book, I chose to speak out using my real name. Unlike my ex-gurus, I have no secrets. Learn more at www.rishikaxcult.com and www.theinnerwisdomprojects.com.

Some reviewers felt that it was too detailed, but I enjoyed the detail. For me, the details served as a reminder of how lost in a screwed up mind set I allow myself to go. Anyone who has been in a cult would appreciate the detailed descent into a cult mindset and the convulsive ejection out of that mindset that the author seemed to have experienced. This book it a fascinating read into the psychology of cults and of co-dependent relationships.
