Sexual Energy Ecstasy is a fantastic book. Well worth reading and re-reading. This is my second copy. The Ramsdales use simple language to explain works from very esoteric sources such as Tantra and Taoist sexual yoga. The illustrations are great and educational and in very good taste. As a Taoist priest I can say, this book is well worth the price and more important,the techniques taught and discussed are worth an investment of time and energy. It will definitely improve your sexual prowess whether male or female.

Very good first book on Tantra

I really, really wanted to give this five stars. I first read it years ago when a friend lent me her copy. It was either the first or second book I read on tantra and is still one of the best. I really loved it, and that may be part of the problem. Reading it now, it just doesn't live up to my memory of it. After a decade of really amazing tantric sex, I see a lot of flaws now that I missed back then.

Most of these are little things. The authors tried for broad appeal by throwing in every odd little bit of New Age sex, nutrition, "energy work," and couples therapy they could find. But that means they repeat a fair amount of crap about things besides tantra. A lot of this stuff was trendy 20-30 years ago, but has since been discredited. Like I said, these things are mostly minor. You can safely ignore them. If in doubt about some of the health or nutrition claims, in particular, just Google 'em and look for thoughtful articles that evaluate the claims from an open-minded but scientific perspective.

But the BIG problem is that the Ramsdales don't seem to have any clue about WHY tantric sex is so damned wonderful! So they buy into the old religious explanations and get led down a lot of "spiritual" side alleys. Since they don't really know why it works, they end up just giving you a whole lot of fun and interesting things you can do. But all the tricks and tips and positions don't really add up to a clear program for discovering the REAL power of tantric sex.

For a serious discussion of what happens during tantric sex and why, and how to learn it and make it really fantastic, there's a blog called "Extraordinary Passion: The Art and Science of Modern Tantra" at [...] The blog writer is the friend who loaned me this book years ago, patiently answered my questions, and got me started on tantra, so I'm biased, but it's a terrific source of information and it makes a really great complement to this book.

My advice? Buy the book! It's still a great sourcebook for tips and tricks and bonding activities for couples! But be a skeptic about the side issues and be prepared to supplement the book with something a bit more modern if you really want to learn HOW to have great tantric sex.

The Ramsdale's manage the near impossible; to write a balanced 'sex guide' which delivers and offers exactly what the title says. The book starts off just a little on the fluffy side, with (to my mind) too many poems. However, after just a couple of short chapters it turns into the most compassionate and practical sexual guide I have ever read, and one which promises the reader practical ways to enhance their lovemaking -then delivers on the promise with interest! The Ramsdale's strengths are without doubt their ability to address the reader without ever condescending, and to do so with sensitivity. Then they deliver the goods. From breathing techniques to secrets of the male and female body, what's interesting is that the book goes into areas I have never seen addressed elsewhere and that the 'secrets' work. The book is both fascinating and an interesting read. Believe me, all couples should read this book. Why this book is out of print amazes me.

A great book that is fun to read and explore. Many of the topics are based on very tenuous science and much of what is said contradicts current medical beliefs. However, if you take those bits out it is a book that offers great insight into our emotional and sexual health. We should all strive to be more open about these subjects since they have a major impact on wellbeing. Most of the suggestions in the book are sound, but I would recommend some deeper research if you were panning on making any major changes on the advice given inside.
As far as sex goes buy this book if you want to improve your attitude towards sex, your sexual health, your feelings about sex, your having sex. In an open and caring manner you will be guided around your own body and that of the opposite sex to gain a better understanding of mutual and individual sexual pleasure.
