When I came across this book, I was hooked after the first chapter. Stephanie/ Stevie lives a life of uncertainty. Her mother, Sara, suffers from an illness and has a problem staying anywhere for long. Stevie is forced to take on the adult role as her mother seems to be unplugged of her duties as a parent. Despite Stevie's dire situation, she does the best she can by holding down a job and keeping her grades up. That's a big task for someone who lives in a house with little stability. As the story goes, this is a deep heart throbbing and shattering romance. A new boy to school or really he's actually a man. Aidan Bane is unpredictable and Stevie is confused why he is pursuing her. After all, she is the girl on the wrong side of the bayou. And as time goes on, Stevie begins to soften toward the alluring Aidan Bane, yet, there's a part of her that doesn't trust him. Stevie senses that Aidan is hiding something... but what? The story is amazing with turns and twists. The characters change when you least expect it. Nothing is what it seems and that is the beauty of the story. I think Jane West did an excellent job crafting this story. The plot is thick, the character are rich and it's a story you will want to read over and over. I enjoyed it very much and I think you will too!
From the Inside Flap
I rolled on my side, facing him as our eyes locked. My pulse began to race. I reached up and ran my fingers through his black curls. His eyes were piercing and yearning. He lowered his lips to mine and kissed me. It wasn't rough or possessive like our first kiss. This time, his kiss was gentle and sweet. Geez, I'd been craving those lips of his. I wanted to drink him down to the last drop. I glanced down at myself and realized that a thin T-shirt draped my body. "Uh," I lifted my gaze,wide-eyed. "Did you undress me? I don't recall changing." Embarrassment colored my face. Bane cuffed his hand over his mouth as his shoulders gently shook in silence. It had taken a minute before he answered. "I believe your mother had the pleasure." "Oh," I repliedsoftly. Bane kissed me one more time on my forehead and exhaled a regretful sigh, "Rest now." He shifted his body to the side, gently throwing his leg over mine and pulling me close to his chest. I felt his warm smile resting on the back of my neck. Chills, Goddamn chills!
