The history is secondary to the story of Lacy Mayford and her family as they attempt to maintain a civility while all around them the community falls apart as they rebel against the Whiskey Tax. Beneath the story of this family, Cygnet Brown incorporates detailed accounts and information relative to a time in history that most of us have either forgotten or have set aside for more recent struggles. She has mastered the art of incorporating our American history into a story that flows easily and keeps the reader engaged.
I highly recommend this novel for anyone that wants to return to the roots of the United States and explore the days gone by, while being completely entertained.
