I also like her crisp clear writing style. She's got a true gift for cutting to the heart of matter while fully describing all the details in approachable everyday language. It seems Ms. Blair's background in journalistic writing has a positive influence on her fiction.
And then there are her characters. Kat and Tevis are nice, friendly and likable, with none of that ugly, insulting banter that passes for humor sometimes. They genuinely care about each other. The plot is exciting, clearly laid out, and believable despite being a fantasy with multiple fairy tale creatures.
All in all, I must say this is the best book I've read in a long time. I can't wait to get to the next in the series. My only regret is that I missed the unicorns the last time I visited Corpus. =-(
I love the concept of portals being opened so the two worlds merge. The bringing together of humans and other worldly beings, such as ogres, Djinn, elves etc. Tevis although working as a detective taps back into his abilities as a wizard to go `Between' to save the day.
I particularly loved the cats and the fact that they go `Between'. It certainly explains where my cats go when I can't find them.
This was a very easy book to read keeping me on the edge of my seat so to speak. I love the writing of PL Blair and look forward to reading more
SHADOW PATH is a combination fantasy, suspense novel that I fell in love with from the very first line. I dare you! Download a sample and read it! You'll be hooked. I couldn't put it down. The storyline of Shadow Path takes place in our world with the readers following the main characters, Corpus Christi police detective Kat Morales and her elven partner, Tevis McLeod, in a murder investigation of an ogre who has been slain at the edge of an alley. I truly enjoyed the interaction between Kat and Tevis, and I'm looking forward to reading more of the Portals series to see where P.L. Blair's imagination takes them and me.
I am amazed at the creativity of P.L. Blair and the beautiful writing style that picked me up and carried me away into the lives of Kat and Tevis as well as other creatures I hadn't given any thought to since childhood. Ms. Blair with her excellent story telling made them all come alive for me. This is absolutely a MUST READ!
After finding a rune covered sword sunk into the chest of an ogre, the two detectives find themselves swept up into a case that involves drug trafficking (dream-dust, tritinium alzide), murder, revenge, and scorned love. The scorned lover, you see, is a powerful, female elf, named Coira who will stop at nothing to destroy her former lover, Detective Tevis Mcleod!
Tevis is an elf and adept in the ways of magic, but no match for the evil Coira who has chosen to follow the uglier, but more powerful black magic. Enter the wizard, Arvandus, without whom all would be lost...
I was constantly amazed at the quality of of Ms. Blair's writing, and at the wonderful editing through-out the novel. The author has managed to make all the characters in her book come alive for me, which speaks to her vivid descriptives and spotless dialogue.
Kudos...and Bravos, to Ms. Blair for this fine fantasy. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!
A genre that appeals to all ages. Kathryn (Kat) Morales and Tevis McLeod, an Elf from the Otherside work under the supervision of Lt. Harley of the Corpus Christi police department. The portals were opened to the Otherside several years ago and the creatures from that realm are seen in the streets with little repercussions until an ogre is found murdered. Murdered with the tip of a magic sword left in the wound and part of his blood missing.
This strange crime interests the FBI and Arvandus requests a loan of Kat and Tevis to search for an Elven killer who has adopted the sphere of a necromancer.
Magic flows both from the words of P.L. Blair to fascinate and Tevis to find and defeat an old love.
Good reading any time.
