This book had so much potential - I kept reading hoping my persistence would pay of. I mean, how many times can someone say something, so something or give you something to protect yourself and you don't do it!!! I cannot deal with stupid protagonist who don't die. You can only remain ignorant for so long until your deliberately putting yourself in harm's way and as a readers it is extremely frustrating and disappointing. The writing is good, the premise is interesting but the plot...I'm going to pass on the series.

I had a hard time reading this book. It's genuinely just kind of annoying. The MC is hard as heck to like and inconsistent. The love interests are pretty two dimensional and blah. But mostly I struggled with the way the book is written. Lots of pop culture references...personally I feel like those will not age well at all and ruins the tenuous immersiveness going on. Plus being heavily pop culture savvy does not replace actual personality...and it feels very weird... like here is a pop culture nerd who makes all these references but hasn't come across Fae? Her bff binges fantasy books bit provides zero insight on fae lore? It's incredibly boring to read about two couch potatoes googling faeries.....which happens for pages and pages. That is not good storytelling.
The storytelling feels so spoon fed to the reader. Lots of explanatory dialogue...very little characters with personality. And the world building was lacking...the setting is Ireland and it does not feel like it's taking place in Ireland AT ALL.
Throw in several editing errors and I can't recommend this book at all.
Just. Not my favorite, won't pick up the next novel.

I only have 2 things I didn't care for about this book & they're related...1. That it had a cliffhanger ending and 2. That the other books aren't available via Kindle Unlimited so that I could have actually read the second book to find out how Becca's story ends! Aside from those two things, this was an amazing book that I would recommend to almost anyone! The only exception(s) to who I would recommend reading this: due to fight scenes, a "mugging" (I'm not giving more details than that on that one to avoid giving away any spoilers that would detract from the enjoyment of those who can handle this book), and the graphic nature of a disturbing encounter Becca has at the end of this book, I don't recommend it to anyone who would get offended by or is too young for graphically depicted violence. There is also a fair amount of drinking, some swearing, and discussion of sexual situations. I mention these things NOT because I felt the author went overboard but so other reader's, who may not want to read any of those things, can make an informed decision. I didn't particularly enjoy reading Becca's disturbing encounter, particularly as that was a big part of the cliffhanger, but I thought the author did an amazing job portraying it as well as Becca's response to it! That is actually why I wish they were Kindle Unlimited books...I am quite impressed with this author's ability to make me feel so strongly for Becca!

Slow and wishy washy. Lots of talking and internal monologue. Meh. Nothing new or very engaging. . . . .

Jill's characters are well developed and she built a world with careful grace and clever word play. She is a detailed and meticulous author with on rising star.
In the first installment of the Fae Games duology she introduces Rebecca Peterson. A girl with a dead end job and a strong desire to travel and utilize her degree in fine arts. To her luck she finds her dream job across the sea in Ireland. As an employee of an art museum in the dreary streets of Belfast she quickly learns everything is not what it seems. That her pull to Ireland was in fact the work of fate and luck had nothing to do with it.
Armed with a brain that wont give up, a desire to succeed and an ancient amulet, Becca (as her friends call her) embarks on a journey she never foreseen coming. Of course you need to sprinkle in a few hot men, a mission to keep the FAE from destroying the world and BOOM you have one heck of an adventure.
Download THIS book! Lovers of all things Fae will rejoice. Karen Marie Moning's Fever series fans will enjoy the book. Lovers of Kristen Painter's House of the Rising Sun will be entranced. 5 Stars and a tip of my Nerd Girl Hat goes to you Jill!! Keep up the good work!

I was told about this book by a friend. Thought I would give it a try even though I usually tend to avoid author's first books mainly due to editing issues. As to that, this book was well edited and only one or two small slips caught my attention. I cannot stand to try to read a story when every other line had spelling/punctuation/grammar or even point of view mistakes.
I was really surprised by the storyline. If you read books about Fae, you tend to like a bit of consistency. While staying within the "norms" of Fae stories, I did like how historical figures were woven into her version of Fae. I agree with some other reviews that the beginning of the books seemed somewhat slow and almost unneccessary, but it does introduce us to a great friendship and in my opinion, gives us a reason why Rebecca is eager to jump at this amazing chance that seems to come out of nowhere.
The book definitely picks up and entertains the further you read, and since this seems to only be a duet of books, I can see why the characters and places are not as descriptive as they could be. She is moving the storyline along faster to condense this world into two books, but I get the feeling from her writing and narrative styles that this could have been great as a longer, slower moving series.
While you can tell that this is from a new author, I believe that her style and stories will grow and become a favorite of many readers. I look forward to the second book in the storyline.

Ok I'll get to my major gryp soon.
Well imagined universe with mostly dimensioned characters. Some of the logistics are a bit sus.
I enjoyed it BUT there is no conclusion. Come on authors set a goal your characters can achieve DON'T just leave us in mid air hoping we'll buy the next book, cus I aint!
