About the Author

Marjorie Swift Doering grew up, quite literally, on a golf course. Her father, a PGA pro, was the owner-operator of an eighteen-hole course in a tiny town in SE Wisconsin. The distinctly unique childhood surroundings laid the foundation for her lifelong enjoyment of "people watching". Occasional reminders to "not bother the members" resulted in turning her into an introverted extrovert, a condition she's since overcome. She graduated from WSU, Stevens Point with a B.S. in Secondary Education with a major in English and a minor in Psychology. She's made continuous use of both ever since, but interests and circumstances led her away from the classroom setting. The love of writing has always been a constant in her life. A few of her proudest accomplishments consist of the production of her one-act play Flight 419 by Darknight Theatrical Productions in Chicago, Illinois in 2005, contributions to Mosaic, A Collection of Short Stories in 2009, the 2012 publication of Dear Crossing, the first in her Ray Schiller mystery series, followed by Shadow Tag, the second book in the series in 2013. Marjorie and her husband Denny live in NW Wisconsin with their springer spaniel Casey and their three crazy but loveable cats, Freddy, Dickens and JoJo.

Great follow up for all of us who loved Doerring's first Ray Schilling novel, Dear Crossing. Ray leaves his small town force for Minneapolis and is partnered again with Waverly, the crusty detective we met in the first book of the series. They pair up to to solve a murder made to look like a suicide, that of the head of the company we met in the last book.
The book follows many twists and turns as they try to unravel the mystery of the CEO's death. Ray also works at patching up his shaky marriage from the wife he's become estranged from.
Nice read for lovers of mystery/police procedurals!

This is the first Ray Schiller book I have read and I enjoyed it. Ray is an appealing character, particularly in the genuine way he relates to people. This leads to some enjoyable 'side stories' like his developing friendship with his neighbour Patrick. The use of a corporate setting was interesting, with the various characters all having a bit of a twist to their involvement. There are a lot of twists & turns and many characters, so it is a book that lends itself to reading in one or two settings before you lose track!

I received a complimentary copy of Shadow Tag (The Ray Schiller Series – Book 2) in exchange for an honest review. This book had a very “film noir” feel to it for me. It was just two cops doing a lot of legwork, trying to solve a crime – and I really liked that. It was a straight-forward, no frills story with characters that were well-constructed and likeable. The problem for me was the ending. Not the ending of the murder plot – that was very well done. The author set up a scenario where everything got spelled out in great detail and I enjoyed that a lot. But there was a subplot involving the main character’s separation from his wife and family that, while providing depth to his character, went off the tracks for me at the end. Except for that, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

I really enjoyed this follow up story to the previous book. It left off right where the previous book ended and all the pieces fit together nicely. Just as in Dear Crossing, the author kept you on your toes and you kept thinking the murderer was one person when in reality it was someone completely unsuspected which is a nice treat. The lead character, Ray, is a hard cop but a very honest one, or at least as honest as you can be in that line of work, after all, the world isn't pure black and white but he did what was right and still held to his human flaws that made you be able to connect to his character. The twists and turns with the various suspects always kept you wanting to continue reading and even though in a few spots, it got a little difficult to tell one character from another, things still made sense and with a couple of mini cliff-hangers as I call them, it was a great read.

Shadow Tag is the second police procedural in the Ray Schiller series. In this book, we revisit the “suicide” of Paul Davis that was briefly touched upon in the first book, Dear Crossing. I enjoyed this book more than I did Dear Crossing.

I enjoyed how the story unfolded. There is so much to discover in this book and I found it all very interesting. As did the first, this book kept me guessing! I had absolutely no clue what was coming and that was great.

This book felt real and more believable than the first and I enjoyed that aspect.

I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about Ray after the first book, but after this book I definitely like his character. He now feels more genuine and I enjoyed the connection he has with his partner.

I loved the ending to this book. My heart rate increased, it was intense, and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen. A really really good ending, very enjoyable.

I wish I could say more, but I don’t want to spoil anything for you. There are some real good twists! I recommend to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.

This was a nice, little murder mystery. There wasn't much depth to it but the story was good and it held my interest. Was not boring so moved along nicely.

Great read. I personally love the character of Ray Schiller, who is not your ordinary detective, he has a lot of baggage, but I still like him. This time a murder at Alliance Computer corporation has Ray and his partner Dick Waverly chasing leads throughout the corporate offices, including the security guards. I love this author's writing style and the way she weaves the tale. Their is just the write blend of murder, mystery and action in the novel and I am looking forward to more in the series.

I liked the first Ray Schiller book enough to read the second. The first one was better but this did move along swiftly. So, I plan on moving on to the next one.
