The characters for the most part have been strong. Some reviewers have said how the characters are very black and white, and although true, there is that one evil demon grandmother that puts an interesting spin on everything. Besides, I actually like the clear cut classic fantasy model that this book takes.
On that subject, the story reminds me a lot of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth. Now, that is not necessarily a bad thing. In-fact, I would say that I enjoyed what I have read so far just as much. Some of the themes are different, and it is its own story, just similar.
The thing that bothered me the absolute most, is the characters emotions. Everyone seems to cry way to much, and the laughter is just really forced and odd (everyone slaps their knees). Then you have these grown men calling things meanies and randomly hugging each other. One other thing, is the over use of mucus-eye mucus, ear mucus, body mucus, everybody spews mucus.
Although my review may seem negative, I actually really recommend this book if you like a simple B read. Every book will have you waiting until the next. They are short enough to read in one day with a long sitting. Each book is a piece of the bigger story, it would be nice if there was a conclusion to a book, but instead it just randomly ends and you start the next. Still excellent pacing, setting, characters, and writing.
I do wish these were less than $6 for kindle. I don't think I will buy the next one until it comes on some sort of promotion, or maybe once they are all released so I don't have to wait for the next one.
Highly recommended! 4/5
From demons and "gods", to dragons and witches... This book is filled with magic, mystery, and some different twists on characters we thought we have known over the years...
An added plus...a love story in the middle...Torg and Layla are striving to best her brother, invictus... A nearly impossible task...
Tune in and see...
