If you are a fan of dark anything, this is the book you want to read next. Dark is my favorite, in fact the grittier the better. I am used to authors saying that a book is dark, only to get started and find out it's kinda dark. Erin writes DARK and I just can't get enough! I wasn't expecting Fawn to get so...evil...but she did and it was AMAZEBALLS!
There are so many twists and turns in Shadowlands that I was surprised throughout the whole book. It was FANTASTIC! Bored is not a word I would ever associate with Shadowlands.
The characters in Shadowlands are well thought out, very developed and I am hoping that Shadowlands continues...somehow. This book was a huge WIN for me. Can't wait to see what is next from Erin Trejo!
This book get 5 stars all the way!
Genre: Contemporary Dark Romance
Wow what a read. To set the scene: Fawn's parents are dead and she moves in with her uncle and cousins to attend college while the lawyer works on the estate. Then the Shadows kidnap her to get back what they are owed.
Mainly everyone is basically an anti-hero. But what is so striking is how by the end you are asking yourself how much madness is nature and how much us nurture? And how much can one person break before they can never come back from madness?
The story was fairly well written only a few grammatical issues but no biggie. Fawn was not a favorite character; too blase. When she and Tate were together all they did was have sex. How is that Love?
I recommend the book for the sexiness and the madness. Would make an interesting psych case study. Nicely done Erin.
Well let me just say this book is dark, twisted, it contains blood and gore, love, betrayal and revenge.
Seriously what more could a girl ask for!!!
This book is NOT for the faint hearted, It contains triggers.
So Fawn is a broken tormented soul who goes to live with her uncle. There she meets Tate, Maddox, Zander and Nix.
Fawn and Tate are drawn to eachother they both have a darkness within that calls the other.
Only problem is that Tate isn't ment to fall for Fawn.
Fawn was oblivious to what was happening around her but when everything falls apart around her she dug herself out of that grave and rose above the ashes.
Loved this book!!
I sooo went in totally blind and I am sooo glad I did. Those first chapters, I couldn't read fast enough because I needed to know what the heck was going on. And really, it was nothing I thought, this book was twisted, thrilling and kept you in the dark, and sooo made you keep turning those pages to find out what tha heck was going on..lol Sooo good!!!
"She is the epitome of the word enemy. Don't let her good looks fool you. She is the daughter of the man that ruined us years ago. She is the heir to our fortune."
Seee.. don't let this book fool you. The Shadows are watching!!!
"Do you want her dead? Is that what you're playing at?" I ask.
"No. Not right away. I want whatever information she has first. Scare her. Play your little games. Make her give us what we want first. Then kill her."
Eeeppp..I gave this book 5 Shadowlands Stars!!! Make sure you go one click this one and find out what the heck I am leaving out of my review!!! lol
This story confused me til about 20% in. I knew Fawn was the main herione but I was introduced to 4 different guys in the span of 10 pages Zander who is her quazi cousin, Maddox the Abercrombie looking model and big bad brooding Tate and Nix.
Poor Fawn has it tough we find put her parents just died and shes uprooted from everything she knows and sent to live with her Uncle Vic, Zander and Nelly her cousins. Shes inrolled in the local college and basically just very depressed and closed off to everything around her. Shes a bit of a spitfire though and she seems to enjoy the unknown which is going to be her downfall.
We find out that Tate is the antihero in this, ill be honest for almost half this story I couldn't stand Tate. Hes cruel, cold, brooding and completely closed off. You don't really know who he is in this book the hero or villain. But I grow to love him and understand not only him but Nix, Zander, and Maddox and even begin to sympathize with them.
The plot is very hard to discribe because if I say to much the story is ruined. But ill say their is a legend about the four shadows who hide in the woods and take unsuspecting girls to never be seen again and Fawn is on their radar.
This story takes a turn for the VERY dark about 45% in so if you have trigger warnings like rape, torture or murder you may want to steer clear of this one. This story then takes some interesting turns with Fawn becoming pretty dark herself and getting excited by the darkest place shes ever been. Entering the shadowlands on her own merit to quench her new sick darkness. Her and Tate become this gruesome awesome sick pair who aren't whole without the darkness of the Shadowlands but who is friend and who is foe? The twists are insane who's lying? Who's telling the truth? What are the Shadow lands? This story keeps you guessing and when you think you have a idea it throws you right off guard!
I give this story 4 stars a bit of a confusing start and a bit slow but I understand why but when the story kicks in whew I couldn't stop I needed to know everything! I truly fell in love with Tate boy is he a sick puppy but he will do anything for Fawn. And Fawn she gets dark, I loved seeing her like that I don't see many heriones who become the villain then bounce pretty evenly between hero and villain through the second part of the story.
