...In the Shadows of Madness is an EP that is well worth experiencing. These three songs are easily some of the most impressive Metal instrumentals you will happen to find, and even some of the most impressive tracks for their styles you may hear compared to many of today's more popular artists. While the atmosphere seems cloudy on Drawing of the Three the first two tracks here really showcase a rich mixture of solid music and strong emotional ties that really make this effort stand out. The more complex guitar performances come off very impressive, and never go so far as to be too over-the-top with technical showmanship that acts like Braindrill and even Origin have started offering lately. If you have yet to hear Jake Dreyer, then take the time to experience this solo release, as it really is well worth looking into. Overall Score: 9/10 --Apoch's Metal Review 6/23/2011
...Jake Dreyer s new, self-released EP, In the Shadows of Madness, reminds me very much of those old Shrapnel releases. And if, like me, you remember said albums with no small amount of fondness, you will probably enjoy the dude s CD. I mean, this is just pure guitar ridiculousness. And I mean that as a compliment. I wish I had a more articulate way to express how this EP sounds, but... nope, that s it. GUITAR RIDICULOUSNESS...; -Axl Rosenberg --Metalsucks.net 6/16/2011
...Guitarist Jake Dreyer, however, is a rare example of a metal guitarist who records instrumental music, and he does plenty of shredding on his three-song ;In the Shadows of Madness; And while Dreyers guitar playing owes something to Vai and Satriani as well as to Yngwie Malmsteen; In the Shadows of Madness is decidedly heavier. Again, Vai and Satriani are known for providing instrumental hard rock on their albums; In the Shadows of Madness, in contrast, is full-fledged metal... -Alex Henderson --Entertainment Critic (Billboard, SPIN, LA Weekly) 5/2011

It's clear to see that Jake was already crafting his Witherfall style on his 3 song ep with RIP Adam Sagan. I wish there was more, but I'm glad to have this download until I can get a physical copy of the EP. I'm sure Joseph Michael heard this and was like "Yea dude, let's do this!!!" I get a little more a of a Nevermore vibe on the heavy stuff on this EP at times, probably just because I really dug Nevermore, Jake has continued that feel. Jake has developed his own unique sound now in Witherfall, so get this banger of an ep on Amazon, you won't be sorry!! Sound like Witherfall played a little bit of "Drawing of the Three" on a clip on Youtube" A Night in Paris Jam. (Witherfall correction. "It was just a jam")
This CD is incredible. I usually do not listen to instrumental music, but In the Shadows of Madness changed my mind. Jake Dreyer knows his way around a guitar. His speed and tenacity are showcased throughout each song. The ability to segue smoothly from playing soft to hard metal to spanish can only be accomplished by an innately talented musician. Jake Dreyer has a true passion for his music and I predict he will become one of the greatest guitarist around.
