Q: In this book, Xander and Warrick need to deal with a series of unusual deaths as well as anonymous threats, yet she is determined to avoid Warrick, who is her alpha and mate. What is the reason for her reluctance to fully accept their bond? What kind of impact did this have on Warrick?
A: Xander loves Warrick, but she's not blind to his faults. Warrick has made it clear that having a true partner as a mate is not something he's willing to do, especially as an Alpha can't afford to show his enemies weaknesses. Which is exactly what he views a relationship. Knowing that, Xander is equal parts frustrated, angry, and hurt, because no woman ever wants to be viewed as a weakness. She's a firm believer that a partner is just that--an equal player in the relationship. Until Warrick can get on the same page, she's not willing to give him that much emotional power over her. Of course, that doesn't mean she won't go out and hunt down the one threatening him. Unfortunately, her reticence in accepting the bond, is driving Warrick's wolf crazy, which in turn impacts Warrick's behavior--keeping him on edge and snarly. Add in the fact that someone is threatening his pack, and he is just not having a good day.
Q: This the story of Xander Cade and Warrick Vidis. What is their relation to Raine and Gavin?
A: Xander Cade is the only other female Wraith (a black-op group within the Kyn) besides Raine, which means the two have slowly become friends. Warrick is the Northwest Alpha, literally the top dog in the Northwest. We first meet both Xander and Warrick in Shadow's Edge. Warrick steps in at one point to assist Raine with a rather unusual aspect of her personality. From Raine's point of view, of the four Northwest leaders, Warrick is the one she steps most quietly around. Mainly because the line between man and wolf is miniscule and that's not something she wants to tempt crossing. Xander, on the other hand, is someone Raine can relate to--fiercely loyal and damn deadly, the two women have more in common than appears at first glance. While both Gavin and Raine hold Xander in high respect, both for her skills and her quirky personality, they do the same with Warrick, due to his well-earned reputation as the leader most apt to kill you than listen to your excuses.
