Editorial Reviews

The first 22 titles in chronological order from this rarely anthologized outfit led by saxman Don Redman, who arranged for Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie and Harry James among others! Includes I Heard; Chant of the Weed; Underneath the Harlem Moon; I Got Rhythm; Pagan Paradise; Two Time Man; Nagasaki; Ain't I the Lucky One , and more. Nice find!

The Redman Brunswicks of the early 1930's are quite simply among the very best hot jazz bands of all time. Not just solo work (although the solos are swell), but the overall arrangements of what are mostly pop tunes are quite simply brilliant. Get a load of what Redman does with the old warhorse "Tea For Two".

Quality hot jazz not that's so good it's not to believed. And to top it off, many songs feature Harlan Lattimore who was known at the time as "The Colored Bing Crosby". Lattimore sang in a smooth crooner baritone and was one of the better vocalists of the era.
