Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

The ancient path of shamanism is alive and well in contemporary society. Physicians, therapists, and spiritual seekers are among those who are rediscovering the shaman's methods--such as drumming, visualization, and storytelling--as effective tools for healing and self-transformation. In this collection of previously unpublished writings, leading figures of the neo-shamanism movement explore the origins and practices of shamanism and its relevance to the modern world. Are shamanic healing methods compatible with Western medicine? Can shamanism help in crises or difficult life transitions? Is it relevant to the search for meaning amid the wasteland of industrialization and runaway technology? Will it help in healing the planet and preventing ecological catastrophe or nuclear holocaust? These are just a few of the questions addressed by Michael Harner, Joan Halifax, Stanley Krippner, Serge King, Jeanne Achterberg, Stanislav Grof, and twelve other contributors to this comprehensive anthology.

This is one of the finest collections of minds, musings, interpretations and insights ever assembled into one volume !! Krippner, King, Mehl, Dossey, Goodman, Grof, And of course, Halifax, and Harner make contributions to this wonderful, enlightening collection. ( apologies to contributors not mentioned, they also wield worthy wisdom !) This was such an interesting read, I almost finished in one sitting. Discussions are about modern Shamanic healing, personal empowerment, sacred places in nature, and what would a book on Shamanism be, without delving into the journey? ! ? Mr. Doore has compiled, assembled, edited and contributed to an entertaining , informative, and important volume. Thank You!! Mr. Doore and all the contributors for their work, insight, and Spirit !! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!

Format: Paperback
This volume has a number of essays that are a cut above the ususal "shlock". Thoughtful and well-reasoned perspectives are shared by such noted authors as Michael Harner and Joan Halifax, among others. The different perspectives lend a broad view to the many facets of this dimly perceived art and science that is called "Shamanism.
