I should qualify myself, I am a painter/illustrator and an architectural Designer and I own a collection of more than 1,000 rare art books, almost all of which are vault stored at a nearby conservatory. Most the books in that collection I began buying while a high school and college student. I was also a tenured Professor of Advertising, Illustration and Architecture throughout most of my career. Between completing my Undergraduate and Graduate degrees, I attended the American Academy of Art and have been since installed in the American Academy of Art's Hall of Fame.
This book is not for the seasoned Illustrator, Professor, or collector who are seeking large format, exquisite reproductions, and prints rarely published. Thus, in my opinion, it is not in the category of classics, for it is a rehashing of dozens of prints already the subject dozens of books of the great pinup artists like Elvgren and Boles and several others including some lesser illustrators.
Shameless Art's pre-publication info ala the following, is more than a little misleading, RE: "This popular art set the stage for the advertised expression of today's more liberated consumer culture. Shameless Art explores the influential work of imaginative illustrators who helped create the visual language for everything from today's comic books, magazine and television advertising, as well as imaginative movies like Avatar (Avatar (2009) - (Added by me-Directed by James Cameron) and sensual films like Y Tu Mama Tambien." (Added by me-Directed by Alfonso Cuarón. 2001).Read more ›
However, there is no text or descriptions accompanying the art, or any information on the artists, and no more than a few pictures from any given artist. It's an excellent low-cost introduction to pin up art for people just discovering the genre, but those with deeper collections will probably not find much new here.

A classic case of the cover promising much, and the contents delivering very lightly. If only it were three times as long and less filled with forgettable illustration...Published 12 months ago by Danel P. Olson
