Praise For Dearest Clementine
My FAVORITE NA book of the year, hands down. - New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Shelly Crane
About the Author
Lex Martin writes contemporary romance novels, the sexy kind with lotsa angst, a whole lotta kissing, and the hot happily ever afters. When she's not writing, she lives a parallel life as an English teacher. She loves printing black and white photos, listening to music on vinyl, and getting lost in a great book. Bitten by wanderlust, she's lived all over the country but currently resides in the City of Angels with her husband and twin daughters.

Reading Lex Martin's Shameless is one of those complete reading experiences where you get totally immersed in a novel and get to explore, existing wholly in another world. This world happens to be of a tattooed biker dude on a lavender farm in Texas. But, god, reading it, I felt like I was there and I felt all of the emotions that Brady was going through--notably grief from the death of his brother (and all of the complicated emotions from family dynamics) and attraction to Katherine, his brother's friend who is caring for his brother's infant daughter.
This is a book of exploration of all sorts of human emotions and it's not the type that skates over the surface and you go, "Oh, he felt bad." No. You feel it too. It gets you in the marrow and the sinew and the bloodstream, and it's the kind of book that you think about for days and days afterwards.
But it isn't an angsty book either. Lex balances the book with warmth, love, humor, and sunshine, even with the darker premise.
So tightly-written, so beautiful, so sexy, so real.
Amazing, utterly amazing book.
"I'm sorry brother. You had a beautiful dream."
Katherine does not appear in any of the Dearest books, but I adored her character right away. She has a sweet and nurturing personality. She and Brady are dealing with heavy and life changing issues, but the book never feels sad or depressing. Right away these two seem to share a connection. Isabella, Brady's niece, is adorable and completely steals the spotlight. Some of my favorite moments are with her and Brady. How can a big, tattoo artist, be such a softie for a little girl? I also enjoyed all the tension between Brady and Katherine. This is definitely a slow burn in the beginning. I felt like singing "Kiss the Girl," throughout several chapters. The two have sexual chemistry, and once things take off, they really get quite hot. It was always obvious at some point, one or both of them would have their heart involved.
"...Brady makes me want to take risks."
While reading, I often become so involved with the people, I overlook the background and minor details, but that is not the case here. The setting is a vital aspect and added depth and uniqueness to this book. It's obvious that Lex Martin is either familiar or has Texas in her soul. I appreciated all the small details and nuances she includes about the region and the farm. I could close my eyes and see the lavender fields. All the town people and little critters added a sweet and endearing charm. The book would not have felt the same without it.
I adored this book, but do have a few minor complaints. Even though it is a spin off, I was sad there are no appearances from the Dearest clan. Secondly, Lex Martin writes good steamy scenes, but there are times when I felt it distracted from the progression of the story. Lastly, I wanted more at the end, but then again, I usually do. Despite these few small issues, I really enjoyed Brady and Katherine and hope to see them again.
If you are looking for a sexy but sweet, friends to lovers romance, I recommend this one for you! Some of the story line is melancholy in the beginning, but it never felt more than a light hearted read. I cannot wait for whatever Lex Martin writes next.
Brady. I just fell completely head over heels in love with him. He makes my heart throb...along with other things. But what I didn’t expect was to be touched by him so deeply. After Brady’s brother and wife are killed in a tragic accident, he goes to take care of their farm, and finds out he’ll be taking care of his niece Isabella. When he meets her....oh god. My heart! And, well...my ovaries exploded! And it happened over and over and over again. I’m so swoony I cannot even!
Everything about Brady is to die for. The way he moves, he’s just so damn deliciously sinful. His way with words is unforgettable. He is so hilarious, my face hurt from laughing. How he acts with Katherine. My god. I swear I melted into a puddle of lust. I love Katherine! I want to be her friend! She’s a feisty thing and such a beautiful person. The chemistry between these two was off the charts! I felt engulfed within their flames. Their banter was priceless. And the three of them together was so endearing, I have tears as I write this. I am crazy in love with them! Everything about them was amazing!
This story had my heart doing all of the things! It fluttered. It swelled. It crashed. It broke. It soared. It healed. That is why I love Lex Martin’s writing so darn much. She’s got the literary mojo that gets you going. Her writing pulls you in, and never lets you go. You become invested in her characters and their story. You’ll laugh, you’ll gasp...in more ways than one, and you’ll love - HARD. You will enjoy every single moment! Shameless is an original, emotional and wonderful love story about family, sacrifice and hope and I won’t ever forget it!
