4.0 out of 5 stars The Shankly Spring Compressor Kit Worked Well
By Mark Jenkins on November 30, 2019
This coil spring compressor kit worked exactly as it should have. I was able to change out the front coil-over shocks on my 2014 Sierra using this Shankly Spring Compressors kit. I have posted a video using this kit on YT if you'd like to see the tool "in action". My only complaint is that the usage instructions are extremely vague. The instructions also directly contradict the statement on the listing that indicates an impact wrench should not be used. The instructions that come with the kit indicate that an impact wrench CAN be used. Search for "How to Replace Front Coilover Shocks on a 2014 Sierra or Silverado" on YT, the video will be listed under my name. I installed a set of Bilstein 5100 coil-over shocks. If you make it to the video from this Amazon review, be sure to leave a comment so I know that this review helped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Broke on first use due to improper use
By GKN on March 16, 2019
Broke on first strut and coil. Pin holding the top clamp in sheared into two pieces.

Edit: Changing rating now that I have cooled down. The failure was caused by me using it inappropriately. I did not grease it, I used an impact, and I actually did not realize thread was bottomed out when it broke the pin. I’m lucky I didn’t get hurt, should pay more attention. I ended up buying traditional compressors which were easier to use, and which I knew to grease after this failure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compressor for a DIYer.
By gaterose on November 14, 2020
I have only used it once, so I hope it doesn’t fail like another reviewer said but for now I am giving this 5 stars. Changed from 13” 650# to 14” 700# coils on my Icon coilovers for my Tacoma.

I tried this previously with 600# to 650# coils on a friends vehicle and standard rental compressors. We literally thought we were going to die.

This compressor style felt much safer and I never felt less than confident. Spent about 2.5 hours including removing and reinstalling tires. We spent nearly half a day with two sets of rental compressors and broke one before going to a professional with the other setup.

If I had a full on shop then I would spring for a floor or wall mounted compressor, but for a DIYer who will only use these once or twice a year it’s a great buy.

I’ll update if anything changes after repeated use, but so far so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy 2 sets for safety
By Sosore on May 11, 2019
Tips to use this for safety on larger size vehicle such as suv and trucks.

1. Buy 2 pairs or have another set of different brand to support it.

2. HEAVILY GREASE THE ENTIRE SCREW THREAD TWICE. One the day before and again the day of use. Make sure you screw it all the way back in and let it soak over night.

I used STP moly-ep grease (thick black) to grease all of it.

Instructions say to use hand tools but when I did that it took forever to compress. With 4 compressors on the spring and heavily greased I used an m12 1/2 Milwaukee ratchet to fasten the process after an initial 1/4 the way using hand tools.

When the job was done no thread was stripped or broken from using a power tool due to proper greasing of the threads.

Do not use power tools without a second set of compressors and grease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked Perfect, Buy this set
By Ben on October 4, 2018
I had this set and the standard 'bolt type' (that you can rent from your local auto parts store) ready when I did the suspension on my M3. I'm glad I ended up getting this set, they worked a lot better than the auto parts store type. The jaws grab onto the spring much more securely.

The low profile came in handy because of the strange/annoying suspension design on this car (E46 M3) that require the spring to be compressed just to get the assembly off the car.
The auto part store type wouldn't fit into the strut tower to remove the assembly.
So it's a really good thing these showed up after being lost by OnTrac.
