This book drew me in. I knew from the first line that it would be a page turner. The characters were so relatable. It is as if you knew them or someone like them. This young characters determination an drive are truly inspirational. If only we had that same character what great things we could accomplish. I highly recommend this book and plan to read it over and over.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre. The Sharecropper Prodigy is a great example of historical fiction brought to life. The characters in this book are so strong and personable. By the end of the book I had formed a real attachment to them. I believe for a book to fulfill its plot, the characters must be strong and personable. This book definitely did just that. The cultural issues in the book were presented truthfully, correctly, and powerfully. Looking forward to reading the sequel.

David Lee Malone has captured the harsh reality of rural Alabama for a brilliant black child during the 1930’s. The young man was blessed with a luminous mind and no available outlets for his brilliance to escape, but he managed make his on outlets alone the way. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, for one Ben Evans, his mind would never be wasted, no matter how bad the red-necked people hated it, or hated him.

This is a definite page-turner. It is easy to form an attachment to the endearing lead characters, Ben, Tom, and Rachel, and I found it hard to put the book down, for fear I would surely miss something. The social stigmas of this era are well-researched and blended perfectly with the plot. Personally, Ben is my favorite. I would love to read more about him.

Three stars for an interesting story with fairly well developed characters, but it seriously needed an editor. HOMONYMS such as your and you're, whose and who's, passed and past, and there, their and they're are not interchangeable. They are used differently and have different meanings. This was a real distraction for me. There are other usages of poor grammar. A 17 year old boy is ready to get his doctorate from Harvard and starts a sentence with "him and me"? Not in a college as strict as Harvard. Unfortunately, the portrayal of bigotry Ben faced was all too true for that time. I would recommend the book, but with a warning about the need for editing. Sometimes spell check is not a writer's friend. Especially if he/she depends on it for usage, also.

I literally felt as though I was along for the ride with Ben and Tom through every adventure. A true depiction of what life was like for African-Americans during the Great Depression in the south, especially when a genius like Ben comes along and forgets his place in the social order. The characters are so easy to identify with and the story keeps the pages turning. A must read!!

This is my first digital "book". I was planning to wait for a print edition, but the preview had me wanting more and I decided this was as good a time as any to dip my toes in the digital stream. I am glad I read this story. Mr. Malone kept me on the edge of my chair with his characters and their adventures. The references to historical events will have me doing a bit more reading and research. I thoroughly enjoyed The Sharecropper Prodigy!
On a tech note I read this on a Nexus 7 and noticed a few font changes, not within a word, but just a few changes in size and italicization. Not sure if it is my device or the "publisher's" issue. It did NOT distract from an interesting story!
Not to worry loggers, paper makers, printers and bookbinders, I will still collect books, but if a book or story is only available digitally, I won't hesitate.

Good book. I loved the story, by the spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors were ridiculous!!! Author frequently used your and you're incorrectly; to, too and two; past and passed; council and counsel; they're, their and there. Often put apostrophes in words where there should NOT have been one and omitted them in words where there SHOULD have been one! This is basic 5th grade English! Did the author not have someone else READ and EDIT the book before publishing? The grammar nerd in me could hardly get past (not passed) these errors to finish what, otherwise, was a decently written book and great story.
