"Beth Buczynski presents a refreshing perspective to collaborative consumption, making a compelling argument that sharing is a key way to address our concerns about the environment, labor, and the economy. In the face of a society obsessed with consuming, Sharing is Good is a great guide to help all of us start consuming less and sharing more." -Randy Paynter, founder of Care2.com
Society is at a crossroads. We can either continue on the path of consumption at any cost, or we can make new choices that will lead to a happier, more rewarding life, while helping to preserve the planet for future generations. Unfortunately, we can't all afford to install solar panels or buy a Prius. Does this mean we are doomed in our quest to live a truly sustainable life?
Not at all. Collaborative consumption is a new way of living, in which access is valued over ownership, experience is valued over material possessions, and "mine" becomes "ours," and everyone's needs are met without waste. Sharing is Good is your roadmap to this emerging economic paradigm. Discover:
- The history and development of collaborative consumption
- The benefits and challenges of a sharing lifestyle
- A wealth of resources from around the world to help make sharing easy and safe.
The beauty of the sharing economy is that it is free, so anyone can participate and make a difference. No one has to sacrifice their individuality or comfort. Best of all, when we're actively engaged in sharing, personal connections are rekindled and we become invested in our communities again.
From the Author
The world is a crazy place right now. We face unprecedented economic and environmental problems. Many of us feel disconnected, and frustrated. We want to fix things, want to help others, want to go after our dreams and build a life full of things that really matter, but we're blocked by the status quo in nearly every direction. Collaborative consumption, or more simply, sharing, is a new twist on old ideas, amplified by the amazing technology we carry in our pockets. The rapidly growing sharing economy represents a shift in both cultural and economic paradigms. By emphasizing access over ownership, and experiences over material possessions, we see that it's possible to spend and waste less without sacrificing individuality or personal dreams. We don't need the CD, we just want to listen to the music. If your car sits in the driveway 23 hours a day, and your neighbor has to take the bus, why not find a way to share. When I discovered the beautiful simplicity of this trend, I wanted to tell the world. Sharing is Good is a conversation about the problems we're all facing, and how we can start to solve them simply by sharing our skills and stuff and ideas. It's a road map outlining the challenges and benefits of collaborative consumption, and provides hundreds of resources that will help readers share in a safe and convenient way. I hope you will enjoy, and share it!

My favorite part of the book is chapter 6, What to Share. It has about 80 pages (almost half the book!) of examples of items to share and companies that provide related sharing services. For anyone trying to figure out what to share and how to share, this chapter alone is more than worth the cost of the book.
This book is most useful for sharing economy newbies, but even experienced sharers will find nuggets of new and useful information.
