Reading “Sharing Nature” brought back memories of that afternoon.
As a teacher, I couldn’t express enough my appreciation for the wisdom behind the “flow learning sequence,” which lies at the heart of this book. It is simply a powerful teaching practice (whether one is in the classroom or not). The process is as follow:
Stage One: Awaken Enthusiasm
Stage Two: Focus Attention
Stage Three: Offer Direct Experience
Stage Four: Share Inspiration
The wisdom of Flow Learning is behind each activity in the book.
I have since introduced my students of varying ages (4th-8th Grade) to the nature activities in the book and have experienced magic beyond my wildest expectations.
It didn’t matter how stressful the day had been or how often we played these games, my students always became more alive each time the activities are introduced … even when we only had a few minutes to look at the trees or play a quick game. The smiles often reappeared on their faces, and they came back calmer and happier. On a regular basis, I get this request: “Can we have some nature time?”
In addition to centering and calming my students, the nature activities in this book have also inspired some of the most beautiful writings they had ever produced: poems, haikus, essays, etc. Some of these poems received awards and got published. I truly believe Nature inspires greatness and brings out our inner poets.
Lastly, I have also modified some of the activities in the book to use as personal nature meditations for myself when I am outside alone. These are powerful meditations and will take you to a place of awareness deep within … beyond what you could ever expect.
“Sharing Nature” is an absolute jewel. I recommend it to all teachers, parents, and group leaders who want to experience and share nature with others. I am also recommending it to all individuals who seek to deepen their relationship with nature and with all living things.

I have adapted various things from this book and used it to great effect with many children.
As I show in my rating, I like it. The problem is, it is a boring book and I don't think the activities are made out to be exciting or inspiring for young people. I hate that but from experience I would say it needs updating and the activities made more exciting and stimulating. I have tried using the suggestions straight from the book and the children looked at me as if I was the most boring person around.
Do I recommend this book........ Yes
But...... Use it to give you ideas not as a book to take full games or sessions from.....It needs adaptation
I'm glad it was free! Sorry author!
