I’ve used Black & Decker irons for years primarily because they’re inexpensive and long-lived, but the terrible luck I had with my IC505 was the end of the line for B&D. I don’t have a problem paying for quality and was willing to do so for a replacement. I have a friend who owns a Rowenta and just RAVES about how good it was, but just couldn’t abide in paying that much for an iron. The Shark fit nicely between what I now regard as the disposability of B&D (trust me…I’ve had numerous B&D devices that just do NOT last) and the high price of the Rowenta. I especially love the bottlenose shape at the tip of the iron, making it FAR easier to work around buttons and into tighter corners that the B&D doesn’t offer at all. It steams quite nicely and comes up to heat VERY quickly. The stainless steel surface is particularly nice as the B&D offers Teflon which I quickly discovered does NOT work as well as you like. I managed to iron over a label on a shirt that made a horrific sticky mess that required considerable scrubbing and effort to resolve, yet with the Shark that was NOT an issue. The Shark reminds me of the premium American made irons of years ago that were virtually indestructible, but yet which now are sadly made elsewhere. So long as this Shark keeps working I have NO intentions of getting rid of it yet alone switching to another brand. If anything Shark has won a new convert and perhaps you should try them too!

Like some have said here the steam button fails after multiple uses have had the iron a little over a year now, was working well but I noticed that the steam button was gradually moving lower and lower til the point it stop working and no longer comes up and remains in the down position but does nothing. Essentially broken! No Bueno!

I bought this iron based on the Shark name and reputation. Be wary...the iron is very heavy. The iron itself irons well in terms of heat; however, it started spitting after only two uses, no matter what setting I had it on. And, after about 10 uses, the surge of steam button broke. Very disappointed. Don't waste your money!

This is a terrible iron. I have never used Shark before but had tried one that belonged to someone else. It is more expensive than the brands I have used in the past, but I thought it seemed effective. Which it is for a couple weeks. However, very little steam comes out unless you use the steam button. The problem is, after a couple weeks of this, the button stays permanently depressed and you get NO STEAM from your expensive STEAM IRON. I contacted the company and they sent a replacement (with elaborate paperwork that required that I go to UPS to return the defective model). Then the exact same thing happened with the replacement. This iron is a waste of $40 or more. I will return to my previous brands, Panasonic or Black & Decker, both of which work well and last.

I'll make this short & not so sweet. The iron was GREAT at first, but began to deteriorate after a couple of weeks. First, the iron began to rust inside and out, leaving rust stains on clothing during the steam mode. Cleaned the outside thoroughly in attempt to remove visible rust to no avail, and cleaned internally via self -cleaning mode. At first, all was manageably well, until approximately a week later when the optional heat settings failed to stay in place and initiate, followed by the heating mechanism ultimately failing. Going back to a Rowenta iron...

This will start out as the best iron you will ever own....for about a week. I purchased one (not through Amazon) and initially loved it. The steam button then started sticking and it didn't seem to heat as well. After dealing with this for 2 months, I went out and bought another one thinking I just got a bad one. The same thing happened to it and am replacing it as well.

DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK! I was deceived by the watts and the believed the advertising on the box. I had been shopping for a new iron and thought this one was it. It seemed large, not too heavy, and had more watts than most others. If it had more watts it must be more powerful, right? Well, no. It was fine for the first week and then it stopped bursting steam, then the lights blinked while ironing...meaning it wasn't at temperature, then the steam button half depressed and never came back up. Now it just completely stopped working in the middle of ironing. Piece of junk. I went out and replaced it with the Rowenta DW5080. Read those reviews.

Pro's:
It is better than my last iron (Panasonic Iron). Had to make too many passes across clothes with the Panasonic iron.

Con's:
!. Lots of plastic on this iron.
2. Does not seem to get hot enough but make fewer passes across clothes than my old iron.
3. It takes 5+ minutes to iron a pair of jeans with this iron. My Shark iron from 5 years ago did a better job and in shorter time.
