Needless to say they were exactly what I was looking for. At slightly a cheaper price I feel I received a better headset than the Turtle Beaches. It was also mentioned to me that my voice was a lot clearer and louder than the PX21s. The headset also feels more comfortable on my head because the earpieces are further from my ears. Upon long playing days the PX21s would start to hurt my ears. Not so with the Sharkoons.
Oh and for people using HDMI the hook-up is very simple. USB into the USB port and the AV cables into the Audio Out ports of the tv. For the PS3 just set your Audio Device input and output to the headset. Thus, all I need to do when changing between the PS3 and Xbox is just to unplug the USB cable from one and put it in the other. EDIT: Basically, Settings>Accessory Setting>Audio Device Settings>InputDevice/OutputDevice = USB PnP Sound Device
That should do it.
The audio was satisfactory and while there is that "hiss" it was not noticeable. I feel the hiss was less than the PX21s tbh. I play BC2 at the moment and the audio is great.
While I won't say that this headset is the best one out there, it is more than adequate for the casual gamer and imo better than the PX21 in quality.
Update Jan. 2012. Still no issues only minor thing is that sometimes it doesnt show me talking even though people can hear me. Also make sure you store it where the mic wont get compromised or stressed.
I chose this headset for a couple reasons. To start, it had very positive reviews. The speakers and microphone were rated very highly for the price of this headset. Honestly, you can't complain about the price of the headset for the quality that your receive. Price was an important factor to me. Finally the headset looked nice from the pictures.
Headband & Speakers:
Upon receiving the headset I placed it on my head and fell in love. I found the headset extremely comfortable and seemed to fit my head very well. The speakers sound great and cancel out a lot of noise in the surrounding area. While the noise cancellation is not as great as the $120+ headsets, for half of the price I am more than satisfied. The looks appear just as nice in person. I was not disappointed by any kind packaging by any means.
I am a PC gamer. Specifically I play Dota which is a team oriented game that requires a lot of communication. The functionality of the microphone was critical to me. The outbound volume is adjustable simply by turning a dial (you change this headset for PS3 and XBOX360 at the touch a button). I have not had any problems of bumping any of the dials in game which came as a surprise to me. The sound cancellation is excellent as I have played in places with free-wifi (#noshame) when my personal internet connection went down. Even in an active skypecall with friends and high volume at a distance there was no extra sounds coming through. I was very impressed on this aspect. Finally, the microphone is detachable. This has been a godsend of a feature. I game on a highpowered laptop, and as a college student I move around frequently. The microphone (and the headset) has remained in high quality condition despite my frequent trips with it in a laptop case. The microphone is highly flexible and adjustable, so that it is almost unable to be damaged, but a sturdy material that keeps it in place while gaming. The flexibility and durability of this microphone is absolutely ideal.
As you see on the 4th picture of the Amazon site there is a small touchpanel with the headset. This is where you are easily able to change between gaming systems, adjust outbound volume (previously mentioned in microphone section), and mute the microphone. This is actually my only source of complaints for this headset. My outbound volume dial got overlooked by quality control. When I turn it down, the outbound volume goes up and vice versa when i turn it up. I have gotten used to this error. Other than that I find myself occasionally finding that I bumped the microphone mute button on the front of the touchpanel. This happens a few times a month (sometimes in game) and is also fixed rather easily. However, I believe this could be prevented if more resistance was added to this button as it easily slides back and forth. I have not had the chance to utilize this headset's PS3 or XBOX 360 functions. But, from a PC gamer viewpoint, this is a good quality headset for a reasonable price.
I strongly believe that this headset is a phenomenal headset and would recommend it any person interested. That being said I had to rate it as 4 stars because of the overlooked errors on the touchpanel and missed quality control standards. 4/5. Happy gaming! I will update this review if anything else arises.
