Great headset. Too many cables though

I use this headset for online gaming and the sound quality is superb. The Dolby Digital is a major plus to my gaming. One problem I'd like to note is the number of cables it has. However, if you can arrange them in such a way that they don't occupy the space too much, then it should be fine.

well for those who compare them to other headsets such as trittons and then complain about wires, well makes me wonder if you have ever owned trittons because they also have wires "everywhere" so i must discredit any review when i see any kind of review which is tainted by an issue which is also apparent w/ headsets that same reviewer is praising. fact is that these actually come with one less wire, the external power supply, and it just bothers me when someone can rate someones review as helpful when it starts off with discreditting info,

HERE ARE THE FACTS AOUT THESE HEADSETS. for the money they are the best. i have been around a long time, i must say that if i were to pit these against higher end heatsets then the score would suffer a bit but those headsets are more of a "competitive lass" and also range from 250- to 600 plus so with that said im basing these on the item itself as well as items in the price range (109 bks for these right now). well to start off i must also say that if i had an extra few bucks i would get the tritton ax pro's which are not insanely priced but also have good speaker config as well as power, but they break.. alot.
when im mgaming at home i use the tritton ax pro's, anything else i will bring my astro's w/me or the "howza's" and funny thing is how i discovered the sharkoons, was gaming at home and yes the trittons pulled a man down, so much that i have a pair of chepo's laying around. but when i got these my first impression was "wow they freakin copied trittons look in every way!!" the 5.1 box was almost identical save color, and the hook up was almost identical.. well i noticed one wore thing which was almost identical, the sound. keep in mind im an old school gamer who likes his comfort zone and his certain products so these were intended to just back up my trittons, but i have found myself using them more the the pros.. not the ax 720's the ax pro's black ops edition. which at the time set me back just a bit over 200.

comparison to all in this class, well ive tried the turtle beach alpha, bravo's and charlies which are just make overs / special editions for the px5 being alpha and the delta's being the "starters", well you got the idea. anyways they blow the sony set's out the water and keep in mind that turtle beaches are marketed and designed for the xbox 360, and then they made other set's which were compat with both, well these can be used on p.c as well. in my honest opinion they are better than the px5's and heres why, wireless sucks when it comes to 3 main items of gaming, mice, keyboards and HEADSETS. the freq unfortunately will interfere with the sound, meaning the sound will drop/cut out here and there, and gamers law is they usually do when its at crucial points of a game, lol.. but seriously i would have to sit directly in front of my 50 in to min the drops, so the whole idea of the headset being bluetooth and it being on different channels etc, bull crap. the box it connects with is the problem. and yes the sound was good, and it does come with a way to download and create presets but many being useless i.e superman hearing and if you are willing to spend 250 then get the astro's.. 30's or 40's will do the job.

the sharkoon is a headset which is in the mid range of headsets, and as much as my midrange must haves/own are the ax pro's these have been a delight to own and use, and yes they have wires. go to a lan party and see how many "pro gamers" are using wireless. anything wireless will have the game lose precision, control, have delay (even if its mili seconds for mouse type devices, it is everything when playing against a person with no delay) so try and stick with wired, console controllers are something else entirely and i enjoy using frags. i will not have it any other way, wired or the highway. yes ive used some very high end devices which do in fact work well, but prepare to pay extra.

the design is nice w/ these, they are not bulky and do not give you red ears of death, game for bout 6 to 8 and your good. the sound quality is not the best ive heard, but again there are crap end, lower end, midrange,high end, higher end and money is no object end. well these fall into lower to mid end as far as the price as it is today, and as far as im concerned they are better or as good as any headset in the under 200 class. but it has flaws, one being with xbox 360 and a mic issue, which has been resolved by investigation aka googling. so everall these are not true dolby 5.1 they are simulated, but they do make a 5.1 and i like these better. the ax pro's also are true 5.1 having 4 speakers in each ear. but i have always been one to say "7.1 simulated? bullcrap" well that was when the 7.1 was a newer breed but i have heard some 7.1 simulated which gave my ears a soundwhoring bomer. bottom line is - do the headsets sound good, are they worth the money and are they sturdy and comfy? yes yes and yes. also they are not very heavy and ive used them w/ p.c. and they work well there too. i have used them w/ ps3 and 360. but more or less more with the ps3, but they work well with any gaming device i mention as well as a music player, and they look pretty cool..

for the money these can be argued to be the best or almost or just as good as some which cost more and better than some which cost more..
so what does that say for these?

360 Buyer Beware

Bought this for Christmas, and once we went to set it up for our XBox 360 Elite, we realized that it did not have the parts in the box required for it to work. Unless you have a newer XBox 360 Slim, it will not work as shipped. It requires an adapter to hook up the 360 AV output to the optical audio wire of the headset. And, every single one of those that are sold on Amazon have a problem that reboots the 360 when you switch HDMI outputs for your TV. The only one that I've found that works without a problem (and this is confirmed by a lot of other users) is sold on Monoprice.com. Oh - and they are backordered until the middle of January on the part.

For a headset that retails for over $100 and comes with a variety of other cables, it is truly disappointing that they don't include this require adapter (which probably has a cost of under a dollar, since it retails for not much over a dollar.) So we ended up with a headset that was a Christmas present that is sitting in the corner until Monoprice gets the part back in stock and we can then order and received the adapter.

A Very Good Product

I have been in the market for a set of headphones for a couple of months now. My wife is fed up trying to get to sleep with the sound of gunfire or tires screeching coming from the living room. I was fed up trying to play games with the volume on my surround sound system set to 3.

In my research I narrowed it down to either the Sharkoon X-Tatic SR's or the Turtle Beach x41's. I was leaning toward the Turtle Beach set because I really wanted a wireless set and there were a ton of good reviews for the x41's, not to mention they were 10 dollars cheaper. In the end I chose the X-Taic SR's because I was worried about the wireless interference people were complaining about with the x41's. I live in an apartment building with what seems like a million different wireless networks plus my wireless router sits right near my XBOX. So I plunked down my 139.00 and ordered the S-Tatic SR's.

When I first opened the box I could see why people were commenting on the amount of wires. There were bags full of them. Do not let this worry you. I repeat, do not let this worry you. Each bag is separated into what system you will use this headphones with and each and every cable is clearly marked with a tag on the wire itself that tells you exactly what it is. Now that is a really nice touch! Each system also has its own instruction manual. I am using the headphones with my XBOX 360 and the wires are completely manageable and have never got in the way even once.

The sound control unit (SCU) sits by my XBOX powered by USB so there is no additional power adapter needed. The included optical cable runs from the XBOX to the SCU. From there the headphones are connected to the SCU. The inline amplifier and volume controller is part of the main wire to the headphone and is situated perfectly so when you are sitting down you have the controls right near your hand. This is also where your mic adapter plus in. There are separate controls for the volume of the game and the volume of your chat which is fantastic.

The headset is very light weight without feeling cheap. It is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time which is perfect for my late night gaming sessions. My ears did sweat a bit that is completely understandable and expected seeing that they are covered up. The mic is detachable so if you are watching a movie or listening to music you don't have to have it attached. The mic is flexible and stays put when you find a good location for it.

The first game I played was Call Of Duty Black Ops. My first impression was WOW! I couldn't believe how great and powerful the guns sounded. Every bullet casing ejected from your weapon can be heard dropping to the ground all around you. Your AI teammates screams and orders can be heard in crisp detail. Everything just sounded awesome. It actually makes the feeling of the game much more frantic because you really feel like you are the middle of a crazy battle. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Simply freaking awesome!!

Next I tested multiplayer because I wanted to see how good the surround effect really was as the single player game has so much going on plus all the music. The surround effect was pretty good. I could make out footsteps coming up from behind me and tell from which side they were coming from. I could also hear bullets whipping past my head on near misses. I honestly don't think that the effect is as pronounced or detailed as on a regular 5.1 surround speaker system is but I never expected that it would be. There is an enhanced 3D sound expander but I don't think I like it that much as it seems to add too much echo and doesn't really add to the surround feel in my opinion. It may just be that I am not using it correctly. Currently I play with the 3D expander off and the in-line amplifier on and things sound outstanding. What settings are you guys using?

Overall I highly recommend these headphones. I rate them 4.5 out 5 stars. You will not be disappointed if you purchase these. As I play more I will update this review if anything changes.

I surfed the internet for a while looking at many different gaming headphone options, this being my first pair. So I don't have much personal experience with multiple brands but I did a decent amount of research!

For me, this seems like an excellent mid-range option for a gaming headset on any console. I have only used mine for xbox360 thus far. It comes with all the cables you would need to set it up with any console which is nice. I've been using it for about a month.

I'll just bullet the features I like:

-Long cable with inline volume, mic mute and voice volume, and a clip on the cord below where it runs into the headphone so that you can clip the cord to your shirt and the inline controls don't pull on the connection.
-Detachable mic for offline gaming/ movie watching.
-Sound quality and surround is good. It's not going to compete with high end speakers but they seem balanced with good bass and more detail in direction than in stereo.
-Build also seems good. I big problem I read a lot about with other headsets (esp. turtle beaches) is they would break. Time will tell but the earpieces are connected solidly to the headband and rotate in multiple directions.
-Comfort is reasonable. I have a pretty small head so I don't notice many problems... it may be a bit tight for people with larger heads in long gaming sessions.
-Price. One of the best things about this headset. I think it is the best balance between quality, versatility, and affordability and is ultimately how I decided to buy this product.

Product arrived quickly and in good condition as always has been my experience purchasing with amazon.
Overall I recommend this product as an excellent mid-range, versatile option. Moving it around between systems will be slightly inconvenient with the cables but it will save you having to buy a set of headphones for every system you own.
