Sharpie marker in a business suit

Bought this Sharpie Stainless Steel Fine Point Permanent Marker here on Amazon in April 2009, and must say that it has not only met, but exceeded my expectations over the last three years. Could say that I'm more than just a Sharpie fan as I've been buying their permanent markers for years, and have generally been quite pleased with them.

For pure cost effectiveness, I've been buying these Sharpie Permanent Marker, Fine Point, Black, Pack of 5 just as seen here for years, both here on Amazon and through my local office supply chain. These are the utilitarian version, the ones that have become a cultural icon in our world, and they can be found in many countries. We get for marking almost anything under the sun that requires a permanent marker.

This stainless steel version works just like the iconic one that we know so well... but it's just dressed up a bit. It has a barrel design with a Sharpie logo etched onto the surface, and even after a few years use, the logo on mine is still there. The waterproof quick-drying ink is smear proof (after a short drying time) and it's truly fade-resistant. You can read the rest of the specs here, and they're generally correct.

The product features note that the "durable fine point tip produces thinner, detailed lines on most hard-to-mark surfaces," which falls in line with the regular Sharpies with their familiar black cap and grey plastic barrel. Think of this stainless steel Sharpie as the same thing, but with a more professional and businesslike exterior. But if I had any major issues with either of their products, it's with what they call a "durable fine point." I've had to resort to other truly fine tip markers (Pilot, Sakura, etc.) when an extremely fine line is needed.

Another issue has been with refills for this product, where the description states: "refillable- unscrew to replace with Sharpie ink cartridge." That's true, when you can locate the refill cartridges. These Sharpie Stainless Steel Fine Refills are available here, but my local office supply chain suddenly seemed to be having a hard time getting them, and more than once I got a quizzical look and the question, "Why don't you just use a regular Sharpie?"

A few weeks ago I came online here and decided to order more refills, and that's when I found this newer Sharpie Stainless Steel Pen Grip Fine Point Black Ink Pen , which I ordered. When it came in, I found that Sharpie does indeed understand what a truly fine point is, and this one has it. Maybe that's because this new one is a pen instead of a marker. There are improvements to the product as well, and there are refills available here, too. I'll review this newer product separately, as it truly deserves that.

But I'm still loyal to this marker that I've had for years now, as it has served me well. It's still a good 4-star product, even after years of use.

Its still just a Sharpie.

Its just a black, fine point Sharpie marker. It performs as much. I/you're paying $4-5 on just a cosmetic difference. Though thats not necessarily always bad.

The outside is a simple, stainless steel case, with a simple Sharpie logo etched into the side. Metal clip is more sturdier than the cheaper plastic markers. Uses a switchable cartridge.

I splurged on this product because I signed up for a free month trial of Amazon Prime, where I get free 2-Day shipping on most products. That said, should I decide to buy a plastic Sharpie on Amazon, it would cost me $3 + $5 shipping...

Not having to pay shipping charges, I went ahead and got this product plus another refill for the exact same price I'd be charged for a 2-pack of plastic sharpies, since I'm saved of all shipping expenses.

The best thing about having such an extravagant sharpie, is not everyone has one, so if yours ever goes missing, and your co-workers magically have one, theres a 50-50 chance you can tell its yours.

Looks cool, still just a sharpie

I am a fan of the sleek design of this marker as it stands out from the crowd when I use it at work daily. Working in a kitchen, a Sharpie is an indispensable tool (and one that is often "permanently borrowed"). At least when I use this one, I know I am in no danger of having it stolen as the thief would be quickly spotted.

The only downsides I have found are that the cap does not sit well on the end (as shown in the picture). It won't grip the bottom of the pen while writing and risks being lost.
Also, the pocket clip was easily torn off when it got snagged on something for only a moment. As it was not welded on, and merely tabbed in through 2 slots on the cap, it was quickly broken and bent and not easily repaired.

Its the small things.. like a stainless steel sharpie.. and if you're a marker or office supply addict, this is a must have.

Please note that this is a stainless steel, fine point sharpie marker and is not the stylo pen.

As a Mom of 3, I spend half the day with a sharpie in my hand. The stainless steel marker is heavier than the plastic version, but the weight is negligible unless you are writing with it for hours on end. The marker insert easily unscrews and can be replaced with a marker refill.

I anticipate that this stainless steel sharpie will be less likely to get lost in my house. My middle child used it and immediately returned it to me so as to ensure that it did not get misplaced. This rather inexpensive yet "fancy" pen appears to strike fear into the hearts of any child that would consider tossing it aside and losing it. Its also easier to spot when it gets thrown into the mix of the junk drawer.

Great looking, but it fell apart

I was getting married in a few weeks and my then fiance wanted to get a really sharp looking pen/marker so people could sign their name on a big cavas picture of us at our wedding reception. This marker seemed to be the most attractive looking I could find. Well it sure is a great looking marker. However after testing it out at home a few times when I pulled the cap off to write the entire marker came with it. It actually pulled the black marker part out of the stainless steel casing. It was just held in their but hot glue. Well there was no turning back, so I used some Gorilla Glue and glued the casing back on and it survived our reception in one piece! It also writes very well.
