5.0 out of 5 stars Best For Glass
By Miriam N. Paschal on August 28, 2020
I ordered several paints and paint pens that were advertised as good for glass. These are the only ones that actually are good for glass.

Painting on glass is tricky. The paint dries quickly, so if you are using a pen, it is hard to go over the same area to get more coverage. Since the paint is already dry, the pen ends up scratching the paint off instead of putting more on. These pens are the same, but if you are careful, you can get a good coat on the first time. Get the paint flowing and keep a scrap piece of paper on hand to re-prime the pen as you go. The best option is a scrap piece of wood, but if you don't use wood a lot, paper is okay.

I use these with the Bayam paint pens. The Bayam pens are very fine, so the lettering and scrolls on the sides were done with Bayam. The backgrounds were done with the Sharpie paint markers. As you can see, the Sharpie markers do not give an opaque finish.

You have to follow the heating directions exactly, or else the purple, red and orange all end up looking like the same color. There is not a great deal of difference in them once they are heated to set the paint. The best part about the Sharpie markers is that you can do a second coat once the first coat has been heated and cooled. You have to be very careful with the second coat because the pen can scratch off the first coat if you press too hard. I tried to mix colors with a second coat of a different color over the first coat. It did work well, but the paint from the first coat came off on the pen, so I would not recommend that.

The Sharpie pens ended up getting heated twice, because I used the Bayam markers for details after the first coat was heated. This seems to really set the paint on the glass, and it is harder to get off after that.

I also use the Mod Podge glass sealer over the paint after it's all dry and heated. It says to let it cure for 28 days so it provides better protection. I don't know how that works because it hasn't been 28 days, but it dries clear.

I tried to get the paint off some of the jars because I didn't like the color and it was very hard to do. These had all been heated twice and clear-coated, but not cured for 28 days. I soaked them in soapy hot water and nothing happened. I scrubbed them with a scotch-brite and nothing happened. I had to use rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to get the paint off and then I couldn't get it all off. So the double heating and clear-coating does work for hand washing. I didn't put them through the dish-washer so I don't know if that would have worked better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing beats that oil-based shine
By Kyle Willis on March 6, 2022
At first I was hesitant to using oil-based markers for comic book remarques, because I had been using acrylic paint markers almost exclusively for ages. These Sharpie paint markers won me over. They dry way faster than traditional oil-based paints and the stunning and vivid colors speak for themselves. 10/10 will continue to use these until the world ends.
