First, the nib can bend if too much pressure is applied over time, not sure if that will apply to this pen, but I will update if it does!
Second, there appears to be WAY less ink in the black retractable pen. After using one of those pens to take notes in class, like 2-3 pages a day, the pen ran out after a little over 2 months. After some investigation, since some other users of that pen had the same issue, I found this article comparing the ink cartridges of the available Sharpie pens: http://officesupplygeek.com/pen-review/felt-or-plastic-tip/inside-your-sharpie-pen/ .
Long story short, get these Original Sharpie pens over the retractable version because they have larger ink cartridges = more ink. The cartridge is smaller in diameter in the grip version Sharpie pen, which could lead to less ink, but I've never used those pens because they are more expensive at retail stores than the other versions.
My only complaint is that the nibs collapse and shorten down sooner than I would like, but maybe I'm just pressing too hard! Either way, I keep using them.
I have to say that these didn't compete with my beloved Pilots, though Sharpies are cheaper and a good deal for the price. The main issue I had with these is the point wearing down to the point where I could no longer write with it. I expected that to happen with the tip (most similar to the Staedtler German marker pens), but not before the ink ran out which appeared to be the case with some of these Sharpie pens.
After they've been used for awhile, they are hard to write with and I have to exert more pressure than usual to get the same amount of ink-- more so than with other gel pens. When they're new, though, they work pretty well and glide effortlessly across the page.
These are more marker-like and as mentioned above, they are most similar to the Staedtler pens that I've tried before. I'd consider buying them again because they are a good price, though they don't last very long.
Then, I began running into a ton of problems. I'll list them below. In general, I'm switching over to the Foray brand pens that are made like the Sharpie pens but have a more comfortable design and lasts longer. They are also slightly more expensive but worth the cost.
Continuous writing w/o "dragging" lines between words
Poorly constructed nowadays: The tip will split into two hairs. The most common problem I've encountered is the metal tubing that holds the felt tip is no longer a snug fit causing the tip to sink into the pen. I never knew how enraging this problem was until I went through a whole box of these due to this issue. Didn't encounter this problem in the beginning when I first started buying these pens so I don't believe that it is the amount of pressure I'm placing on the pens.
