Uncap the Creativity
When it comes to self-expression, nothing beats a Sharpie. Introduced in 1964, the world’s first pen-style permanent marker made its indelible mark on the world. Suddenly, paper wasn’t the only surface with a voice: Glass, wood, stone, plastic and metal all became a canvas. And that was just the beginning. Today, each new color and style sparks ideas, inspires creativity and makes life more fun for humans everywhere. So what are you waiting for? Grab a Sharpie and uncap your imagination.

The Stainless Steel version is much more comfortable as it has a nice balanced weight and a rubber grip. It is still permanent, writes very smoothly, does not bleed through even the thinnest paper, and typically does not smear. The cap has greatly improved as it holds tightly and will not come lose until opened intentionally. This means the pen is now safe to store in locations where it will be tossed around (such as backpacks & purses).
The only negative regarding the Stainless Steel housing is the clip which is EXTREMELY tight. I couldn’t even slide a single sheet of paper under the clip without it ripping. Hopefully it flexes more over time because right now it takes both hands to carefully slide the cap over a shirt pocket. And forget about ever sliding the clip over a pocket in your jeans.
While I completely love writing with this amazing pen, I am disappointed that it is not a better value. The pen itself is fairly inexpensive (less than $6), but the refills cost almost a dollar more than a new disposable Sharpie pen (which technically writes equally well). Also, the refills are so large that I don’t feel as though I am being any less wasteful than if I were to be using the disposable Sharpie pens.
This pen absolutely offers a better writing experience than the disposable Sharpie version, but I am having a hard time convincing myself that it is a smart / high value purchase for the average consumer.Read more ›

- Why are there no blue or red versions of this same stainless steel pen?
I've owned a different, earlier version, for a few years now, the Sharpie Stainless Steel Fine Point Permanent Marker, and it's one that I reviewed. My main issue with that one was that as nice as it looked, it wasn't any more fine tip than one of the iconic Sharpie black permanent markers that we're all used to with their characteristic black caps and grey plastic barrels. The difference between the older one and this newer one is simple: the older version is a marker, and this newer one is a true fine-point pen.Read more ›
I've used it for journal writing and found that it didn't bleed through to the back of the page. The only time there was slight bleed through was when I left the tip of the pen on the paper without moving it. That was just a test as that doesn't happen in the normal course of my journaling, but I wanted to see what it would take to get bleed through.
I am an avid knitter and tried this pen out on knitting patterns that I've printed from my computer. I like to print them back-to-back (double sided) to save paper. Because this has such a fine point and doesn't bleed, it is the perfect pen for marking off rows and stitches. I no longer have to keep making copies of the pattern because it got so messy with ball point or pencil marks. This is a real time saver and I'm thrilled with it for that use alone.
I also like to make my own greeting cards and found this pen to be perfect for doing writing and some drawing/decorating on the card stock. I even used it to write on the lighter weight papers and it didn't smudge. I'd love to see them make these in a wide range of colors, they would be a perfect craft product.
Over all I have been well pleased with this pen. It does the job and then some and I love how versatile this product is. The pen sits well in the hand and has the same fine quality I've come to expect from the Sharpie brand.
And they are refillable and the refills are available here on Amazon as well. Sharpie Stainless Steel Pen Grip Fine Point Pen Black Ink Refills (1800730)
