Review

Let me first say that I loved, loved, loved Shattered Dreams!! The way you worded and covered Max and Emma's story, from the birth of their son and how they came to be a family, was beautifully done. When you described their feelings, emotions, failures, achievements and so on, I felt as I was the one going through them and it sucked me in completely.~ GiveMeBooksTOP 1000 REVIEWER
I.Need.The.Rest.Of.The.Story...please! Well done, Brenda Kennedy! I can't wait for the rest and I can only imagine that there will be plenty of drama in it. ~ Kara, 5 Stars

You never know what life has in store. Love every minute you have, it come crashing in on you without any warning! This book was hard to put down and hard to read at times. I had to have tissue sitting next to me when I would hit a spot that was sensitive. The ending of the book, WOW!!! I can't wait to read the next one! Shattered Dreams is one heck of a book that everyone should read! ByPeggy Salkill (Stormy Nights Reviewing & Bloggin') "Peggy Salkill"

This book is not complete. Readers should be warned about this before purchasing it. It's sad that the author has to interrupt a story just to sell another book. An excellent author would never need to rely on this....readers would clamor for the next complete story.

The book itself was great but I HATE CLIFFHANGERS. The book was very well written and brought tears to my eyes but the cliffhanger was my breaking point.

UPDATE 3-8-16: Thank you to reviewer Tamie (see replies to this post) - author has updated her description of the book. For the reasons noted in the paragraph below, I have updated my rating to a 4 ☆ review.
----------------------------------------------
Original review:
I liked the 1st person, alternating narratives, and I always like when a story honors our nation's heroes. But it was very distracting to be pulled from present tense to past tense and it was ridiculous to have the book end before the story came to a close.

I understand cliffhangers to sell the next book, but this felt more like Friday afternoon's soap opera.

Note to author: Be honest with your readers that the book is not going to stand on its own as an independent story and trust that if your work is good enough that the reader will WANT to buy the next story in your series. But readers don't like to be misled.

I was gifted this ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review! First of all, it is book one of a trilogy with a serious cliffhanger ! I normally wait until all books of a series are published before I read them because cliffhanger make me crazy! But after reading Brenda's first series, I couldn't wait to start Shattered Dreams! And believe me, it was well worth the cliffhanger !
Shattered Dreams starts off with Emma and Max. A young married couple, Max is in the army and is stationed in New York. They have a sweet, pure love that we all dream about. A happy life with good friends, a supportive family and a beautiful new baby boy. But dreams shatter and when tragedy strikes and the unthinkable happens, Emma has to find a way to carry on for the sake of her son.
Fast forward a few years, Emma and James are closer to family and getting by and better every day. She dedicates her time to raising her son, not thinking about dating or loving again. But then she meets Alec, a friend of a friend, who is the first man to make her heart race since Max. Alec and Emma start to spend time together along with her son James and Alec has a daughter Raelynn! They begin a friendship that becomes more. There is a bit of a mystery surrounding Raelynn's mother. You don't really get the story about what happened to her. Yet???
The secondary characters were very likable! I especially loved Emma's best friend Brooke who was her neighbor on the Army base and years later becomes her neighbor again! And James is a delightful child, I enjoyed watching him grow.
I will anxiously await the second book but until then I highly recommend you read this book! It will make you cry but it will make you smile more! Thank you Brenda for another brilliant story!

Okay I’ve never done something like this so bare with me :)

First Shattered Dreams was an altogether an amazing book just like I knew it would be! I read the synopsis of the book before reading the actual book so I had some idea of what it was going to be about, but I am very happy that the beginning of the book started with Emma and Maxs life together, this gave the reader an emotional attachment to their love for each other. You had me crying twice just with in the first few chapter once when Max was shipped off for early deployment and when Emma got the news that Max was killed in action and saved everyone in his platoon (when Max was killed I cried my eyes out). I also loved how you didn’t just skip right to her new life in Florida you gave her time to grieve Max and some time for James to grow up. I love how you include the ending of Destined to love with this book. I love how you don’t rush things with Emma and Alacs relationship but at the same time things don’t drag out. Also I love how Max comes to Emma and James in their dreams, I know Emma is starting to move on with Alac but I hope you have Max appear in her dreams still every now and then. :) All together the book was put together perfectly! Oh and holy cliffhanger at the end!!!!

I am an extremely picky reader, but I absolutely love Brenda's book!!! She has an amazing talent and is an amazing author!! Cant wait to read all the books she will have in the future!!

I loved the book...until the end. Let's suck unsuspecting reads into next book by ruining the ending of Good book. Although I could see the first wife was sort of left hanging, there was no need t ruin a do, could be stand alone, read into one of those hated, dreaded cliffhanger-serialized books. So what I thought was a five book turned into a two star book. And I have no interest in reading the psycho wife stalker next book

I read all three books in the series before passing judgment. I don’t like writing negative reviews, but this series is a waste of time and money. The women only talk about decorating, weddings, and babies. The men all drink beer and talk sports. The plot includes drug addiction, two stalkers, and a school shooting. Each is resolved quickly, cleanly, and absolutely unrealistically. It could have been written by a 12 year old.
The thing that drove me to review the series was when the author wrote herself into the story, bragging about her cliffhanger strategy and shamelessly plugging her other books. That’s when it went from poorly written to laughable.
I’m sorry to write this, but other readers need to not waste their time reading it and the author needs to give some more thought to her writing.
