I was happy that this title brought with it a return to this author’s werewolves because as much as I enjoy her witches and fey, my heart lies with her shifters. Meredith was recently cured of a curse that prevented her from transforming, so I did have some concerns that this installment wouldn’t be Alpha enough for me. That unease was swiftly put to bed when Molloney walked the walk, and talked the talk with Donovan’s weres.
Cosette played a small role in this book however, she definitely made it count. We learn quite a whooper about her, mind you it was something that I’d already suspected, and even though she’s forced to take a back seat since the Courts are all in a tizzy over the wolves’ latest slip up, she covertly saved Meredith’s bacon. The pack politics were interesting enough, but they still didn’t hold a candle to the fey.
The ex-lover plot line has never been high on my fun-to-read list however, Vivian did bring new meaning to the crazy ex-girlfriend cliché. There were many factors at work that were causing the instability with the Irish werewolves, and I was surprised by how much I liked solving the puzzle. Friends turn into foes, nothing is as it seems, and Donovan must make some tough decisions that he’s been avoiding for far too long.
SHATTERED PACK was well worth the year and a half wait between novels.
I loved Meredith from the beginning of the series when she first became friends with Tessa. She is not afraid to be herself and show it with her colored hair and sassy attitude. She is also tuffer than she appears and realizes.
When her mate realizes that his Pack needs him and that it is not doing so good she insists that she needs to go with him. With members of the Pack hating her before she even meets them she will have to prove herself worthy and protect herself from backstabbing Weres.
I love the story. It kept me reading and I never wanted to put it down. The twists were nice, just when I thought I had it figured out the real master mind was revealed. Mentally insane Weres are bad news but backstabbing Weres are worse.
It has quite a bit of cussing and only short and not detailed make out seans. I would definitely suggest reading this book and all the other books before. Enjoy!!!
I enjoyed the return to the Alpha Girl world and spending more time with Meredith. She is one extremely competent 18 year old girl, almost unbelievable so if she hadn't been training since the time she was very young. I liked seeing her confidently jump into her role as Donovan mate and not shy away from tough situations and not letting him Alpha her into being protected all the time.
I found the focus on the Ireland pack with some Fae information to be a nice change and interesting.
What did give me some pause and led to the four start rating was Donovan. While it was great to see more of him, and his relationship with Meredith was wonderful, he frankly seemed to suck as a leader. An explanation was given but it was hard to swallow that the 18 year old Meredith had a better grasp of the situation and realities then he did. I understand self-denial can get to us all, but it wasn't what I would expect from someone in the seven. I would have liked for there have been a way for Meredith to show her knowledge and usefulness as a mate without knocking Donovan down in my eyes. Hopefully with the conclusion of this book he will redeemed in future books.
