Review

"'A questioner is driven by wonder, but a doubter is blinded by limits.' This quote from Aaron not only struck a chord but it is an excellent summary of this book. Grounded in building relationships with those you serve, while also being a continuous learner in our journey as educators, Aaron reminds us what is important in education while pushing us to be better in our respective roles so that we create a legacy that lasts long past
our time in education."
--George Couros, author of The Innovator's Mindset

"Aaron Hogan speaks straight from the heart with power behind his words. This book moved me. It made me want to be better, to try harder, and to thrive more at every aspect of my career. If you read any book this year, it should be this one!"
--Todd Nesloney, co-author of Kids Deserve It!

"More than a book, Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth contains the new DNA of teaching, learning, and professional growth. Woven into the pages are unassuming ideas and thoughtful stories that elicit hope. Aaron Hogan has managed to craft a series of chapters that feel more like mile markers leading towards the next best version of myself as an educator, and for that I'm ever indebted."
--Brad Gustafson, principal and author of Renegade Leadership

"If you've ever found yourself spinning and drowning amongst all the demands in teaching to a point you are just trying to survive, then this book is a must! The beauty of Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth is that Aaron has reached out his hand to support you past the surviving mode and into an energetic life of thriving. It's a dream come true to get your life back while making a huge impact!"
--LaVonna Roth, international speaker and creator/founder of Ignite Your S.H.I.N.E.®

"Aaron takes us on a compelling journey, reminding us why we gladiate for our students. This book is a convergence of hope and perseverance for our profession."
--Marlena Gross-Taylor, founder of EduGladiators.com

"Aaron Hogan reminds us in Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth that the most important role we have as educators is to support others in becoming better people, especially our students. For those of you who have ever read a post from his blog, you will not be disappointed. What sets Aaron's writing apart is his genuine storytelling, honest reflections and practical examples that we can immediately adopt as a guide to help us move past our struggles and give us the confidence that we can not only do better for our students, but be better for them everyday ... every day."
--Jimmy Casas, author, speaker, leadership coach, and senior fellow at International Center for Leadership in Education

"Educators who THRIVE are not only passionate about their work but equipped to go beyond the ordinary. Aaron offers encouragement and insight for everyday practitioners to grow in their craft and find support beyond their 4 walls."
--Jeff Veal, co-founder of LeadUpChat

"Perspective is important. It affects how we look at students, parents, teachers and leaders. In Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth, Aaron Hogan helps educators focus on the new perspectives they need to move forward. Whether it's our approach to classroom management, district and building initiatives, teaching strategies and student expectations, Hogan helps educators seek new ways to meet their goals. Aaron is a very talented writer and it's clear he put his heart and soul into this book. More importantly, he offers impactful suggestions based on research and his experience as a teacher, which will help all teachers THRIVE."
--Peter DeWitt, Finding Common Ground blogger (Education Week) and author of Collaborative Leadership: 6 Influences That Matter Most

"Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth is one of the best books about teaching and learning I have read in years. It is practical, inspiring, and a book you will refer back to more than once. In this book, Aaron Hogan exposes many of the myths we face in education and argues passionately for replacing the "Myths We Believe" with "Truths That Will Let Us Thrive." He does so by offering strategic and practical ideas for thriving--not merely surviving--as an educator. Hogan reminds us why we went into education in the first place and equips us to become re-invested in our students, our schools, and ourselves. This book is a must read for classroom teachers and school leaders."
--Dr. Jeffrey J. Zoul, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning of Deerfield Public Schools District 109

"Regardless of your experiences this book speaks to you. We have all wanted more for ourselves. We have all doubted our abilities. We feel things because we have an innate desire to want to THRIVE for our students. Aaron Hogan reminds us how to THRIVE and provides applicable ways in which we can do it tomorrow."
--Matthew Arend, principal of Sigler Elementary School, Plano, Texas

"Aaron Hogan provides great insights and strategies for educational leaders to shift their thinking. Based on six key factors, THRIVE helps educators, at all levels, to address the myths and realities to make meaningful impact with students, parents, and the community. Hogan reminds me the power in not just surviving the day, but in choosing to THRIVE!"
--Dr. Neil Gupta, director of Secondary Schools, Worthington City Schools

"In Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth, Aaron Hogan engages and inspires with his masterful storytelling. Through his narrative, he connects philosophy to practical applications that will resonate with educators. I found the questions that he poses throughout the book promoted deep self-reflection on my part."
--Mark McCord, principal of Stockdick Junior High School, Katy, Texas

"Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth is a book that each educator should have in their professional library. Its reflective nature makes it a useful tool that can be referenced time and time again. All of the answers to our deepest issues begin by reflecting, and THRIVE is the beginning of this process."
--Dr. Sanée Bell, principal of Morton Ranch Junior High School, Katy, Texas

"Nowadays, when I buy a book I am looking for one of three things; stories that engage me, real-world examples that I can actually relate to or strategies that can be put into place tomorrow. With Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth, Aaron has provided all three! Through honest reflection and artful storytelling, Aaron has not only inspired us to be better, he has shown us how."
--Jon Harper, EdLeader, blogger, and host of the BAM Radio podcast "My Bad"

"Aaron Hogan shares his own experiences to offer the perfect recipe for affirmation, encouragement, and self-reflection. Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth is filled with authentic ways to help educators improve their practice and influence others in the process. It is a perfect tool for educators who are passionate about becoming a better version of themselves."
--Bethany Hill, lead learner of Central Elementary, Cabot, Arkansas
