“A little sweet, a little sharp.” ―Booklist, starred review
High school nemeses fall in love in Kelly Quindlen's She Drives Me Crazy, a queer YA rom com perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Casey McQuiston.
After an embarrassing loss to her ex-girlfriend in their first basketball game of the season, seventeen-year-old Scottie Zajac gets into a fender bender with the worst possible person: her nemesis, Irene Abraham, head cheerleader for the Fighting Reindeer.
Irene is as mean as she is beautiful, so Scottie makes a point to keep her distance. When the accident sends Irene’s car to the shop for weeks’ worth of repairs and the girls are forced to carpool, their rocky start only gets bumpier.
But when an opportunity arises for Scottie to get back at her toxic ex―and climb her school’s social ladder―she bribes Irene into an elaborate fake- dating scheme that threatens to reveal some very real feelings.
From author Kelly Quindlen comes a new laugh-out-loud romp through the ups and downs of teen romance, perfect for fans of Adam Silvera.

EDIT***
I just finished rereading this book and decided to add to my review. I loved the book the first time around, and adored it my second read through. I think Quindlen perfected the YA formula with this book. It's a book with endearing and unique characters that you can't help but root for. Irene definitely steals the show as my favorite character. She is the love interest of the novel, and Quindlen writes her so well that you as the reader end up falling for her too. This book has some of YA lit's funnest tropes -- fake dating and enemies to lovers. While this book keeps a lighthearted tone and is a very feel-good read, it teaches lessons that both teenagers and adults could benefit from-- the importance of putting healing first and the importance of communication for healthy relationships. It sets a wonderful standard for many readers to apply to their own lives. In addition, I think Quindlen perfected the YA recipe because it has the best parts of YA literature while leaving behind the parts that annoy me. The big conflict in the book between our two heroines doesn't feel overly dramatic or drawn out. I usually cringe when I get to the part in YA lit where the love interests hit a speed bump in their relationship and a lot of times it feels unnecessary. She Drives Me Crazy does a wonderful job with making the conflict necessary for the plot and not cringe at all. It drives the plot forward and helps the protagonist grow while still keeping the story fun and interesting. After reading this book for a second time, I can say with confidence that it's one of my favorite romance novels and I'll definitely be rereading it again soon!
I like the characters, I like the plot and I like the multiple not too subtle, but not too preachy messages this book conveys. It is going onto my list of best books I've ever read, which includes such classics as: All Quiet on the Western Front, The Dresden files series, The Eternal champion trilogy, Vampire Hunter D, The Great Gatsby, World War Z, Anne of Green Gables, Wizard's First Rule, The Golden Compass, The Corpus Hermeticum, The Han Solo Trilogy, At the Mountains of Madness, Our Man in Havana, Monsters you've Never Heard of, Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized Parody, The Hobbit, Annie on My Mind, Dave Barry does Japan, Shulz and Peanuts, and my all time favorite Belinda.
My only complaint is that the book isn't longer and that the odds of a sequel are slim to none. Also, Spoilers Ahead; seriously Spoilers Ahead: It's set up that the main two characters have had intimate relations before they met, so why don't we get a scene like that involving these two? I wasn't looking for full blown NC-17 but something sensual without being explicit. The kind of thing that raises the eyebrows and causes the imagination to wander just enough that your motor gets running.
If your on the fence about whether or not to read it because either it's a topic you find stale or a topic you don't normally have interest in; take it from this libertarian, gun loving, small government believing doesn't care about gays except for a select few friends, only votes for the right because the left wants to turn all Americans into Shoggoths, long haired, hard rock fan that also loves Celine Dion, foul mouthed alcoholic: if you like a good novel regardless of what your personal beliefs may be, buy this book. You can thank me later with a bottle of Jim Beam Devil's Cut. I'm glad I travelled out of my little corner of the world and I have no regrets that I read this book. It will forever have a place of honor on my hall of fame shelf on my bookcase. My hat, if I wore one, goes off to the author. She wrote a damn fine book.
I got this book at around 1:30 pm this afternoon and the second I started reading it, I couldn't take my eyes of off it. This book was perfect and here I am just finishing it at 1:00 the next day in the morning. This book is so addictive I can't put it down without groaning. If you are someone who loves fake dating, competitive sports, tough-to-get relationships, and ALOT of drama and I mean A LOT of drama, you will absolutely love this book!!!! This book is about a girl named Scottie and she had a break up with her now ex-girlfriend. She is trying to get over it and realizes that her Ex feels jealous as soon as she's been carpooling with a popular girl from school, Irene. (carpooling because Scottie accidentally bumped and broke some part of her car.) Afterward, Scottie realizes this and asks Irene to fake date to make her Ex jealous and she agrees because Scottie is also covering the cost of the damage made to her car. Find out what happens next (TRUST ME ITS SO INTERESTING!!!)
