I met Lina in 2011 at an entrepreneurship program at Thunderbrid Grad School in Arizona sponsored by the Business Development Center of Jordan. Lina had on a t-shirt with a tae kwon do figure on it. We compared notes -- she's 3rd Dan, I'm 2nd Dan. Her power and excellence is off-the-charts (and that's not just about TKD). One of the tenets of TKD is to teach -- to share experience, wisdom, strength, knowledge, control, confidence. Now she's doing that -- for everyone, by writing this book.
While Lina travels the world sharing her message through Shefighter training and frequent appearances (e.g., UN, White House, Olympics) now everyone can take advantage of a message reading her story. It's a short read, and I couldn't put it down. Read it in one sitting on the day I got it! What I loved is changing the stereotypes:
- Self-DEFENSE is standing up for yourself and your beliefs, not attacking others "Teaching people to fight so they can hurt other people is not worthy. Teaching people to fight for a cause...I can not think of many higher callings."
- When you are empowered, not everyone will be thrilled. But YOU will be thrilled.
- Violence is a problem everywhere. It's not a Middle Eastern problem. It's not a woman problem. According to NCADV, 1 in 4 women in the US have encountered SEVERE physical violence. This is why this book is for everywhere. I loved Lina's stories about what happened when women started defending themselves against assaults (including verbal). Brava!
- It's a positive story. If a tomboy of Palestinian descent living in Jordan with a damaged ACL can become a world leader empowering women, then why can't we all stand up and dance too?
Thank you, Lina, for telling your story. You inspire me. Looking forward to Volume 2!
I love how open she was to share how she was bullied because she was different and how she never gave up on what she believed it was right and on her dreams!
Not only this, she turned what she learned to an initiative and a program to empower young girls and women around the world!
SheFighter is a great program and This is a great book for sure!
"When life punches you in the face and throws you to the ground, stand up and say, 'You punch like a baby.'"
Lina is a very great person! ❤️❤️
