A Dark engaging story of reanimation, spirits and automatons with souls.
A story of two siblings who see no alternative but to align against their father.
A torment so brutal that a man’s soul breaks away from his body, only to find his salvation in a young woman called Topaz.
Despite the evil that occupies Topaz and Sapphire’s home, both siblings find love, but whether they’ll survive to experience its full depth remains in question until the end.
Masterfully written with both darkness and evil causing great harm and moments of endearing love and kindness. Sometimes the acts of kindness turn out for the worse, but sometimes the darkside fails as well.
The author does a fabulous job of balancing the two so that I never wanted to put the book down. Instead, I wanted to marvel at the good souls in this story and how hard they were willing to fight against evil.
The book is called a ‘Buffalo Steampunk Adventure.’ While there is steam used in the basement experiments, the story is far more reaching than your standard steampunk, even pressing you to reconsider what or who possesses a soul.
I give this a solid 5 stars. Well worth the read!
Topaz Hathor is an interesting heroine - she has powers that she has kept locked away for her entire life, refusing to be like her charlatan father. Romney Marsh is a man who desperately needs her to save him. He's trapped somewhere...he can't remember where...and he needs Topaz to use her powers to find him.
This book is full of amazing inventions, things I never saw coming. Automatons, steam canons, steamies....a little bit of everything. It has a rich world built on characters that are diverse and complex. It's a world that is unique and one I didn't even know I needed. This book is steamy, it has intense moments that are earth shattering. In short? 5 MAJOR stars. I'd give it more if I could.
Steam robots, spirits of the afterlife and something going on in the cellar which appears at best to be outside the law, and at worst is a repulsive and horrific act.
Steampunk with a difference. Not the normal back in time and change everything to steam, this book has a uniqueness which caught my interest and kept me reading until the end. Spiritualism combined with steampunk and a little bit of science fiction makes for a brilliant story and when an unusual romance is included it is difficult to put the book down. Highly recommended.
