About the Author

With more than 35 years of experience in applied engineering in the aircraft and automotive industries, Vukota Boljanovic has performed extensive research in development and manufacturing engineering, including the impact of design modification on tools, dies, and processes selection, aircraft assembly and inspection. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and has worked as a Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Dzemal Bijedic University in Yugoslavia and as Vice President for Research and Development at the SOKO Aircraft Company where he oversaw industry and government funded research on a variety of manufacturing topics. The author of two books and numerous papers in many technical journals, Boljanovic has been recognized by the aircraft industry and academia for several of his contributions to manufacturing processes. Before recently retiring in Knoxville, Tennessee, he spent five years working in the American automotive industry.

With more than 20 years in manufacturing, as well as the experience in sheet metals, design, tooling and product reliability, I found this book very useful for students and professionals with mechanical engineering and manufacturing background.The book covers so many manufacturing processes and die designs with relatively short but very clear and concise definitions and explanations, along with many examples and formulas. Both students and professionals will find this book very refreshing, easy to read and understand, and at the same time essential for practical implementation of their theoretical knowledge.

Having worked in industry for nearly fourteen years, I am genuinely impressed with this book as it is written for a wide audience, such as the practicing Engineer, Applications Technician, or Tool and Die Maker. There are numerous illustrations to support the mathematics utilized to calculate and plan for shearing forces, punch clearances, material formability, and die design just to name a few. Furthermore, the book would serve as an excellent working reference for any professional in the manufacturing sector as the author gets right to the point of each topic without an overwhelming amount of theory. In addition, the appendix includes a great overview of limits and fits tolerancing, related material standards, a GD&T memory jogger, and unit conversions. It?s almost a steal for the price.

Just last week I got this book. It is really good and helpful book. This is practical guide to the still most commonly used manufacturing methodology for mass producing complex, high-precision parts. Author covers blanking, material economy as well as deep drawing, bending, tooling design, etc. Book has some useful formulas but the most important is that focus is on engineering methods and design. I would recommend this book as a must have for any Tool and Die Engineer and technician.

I have to admit that this is really interesting book coming from Industrial Press. With some new ideas and approaches to Die Design and Metal Forming author covers simple but yet essential manufacturing processes and operations. Mathematical formulas are easy to understand and very practical. This book was gift to me but I would recommend this book to any Tool and Die Engineer.

With over 30 years of my engineering experience I can say that this book is very good! It covers a lot of things related to the die design (blanking, bending, material economy, deep drawing tooling design) and it is definitely great addition to my library. Book is very ease to read and understand. Very practical design and layout as well.

Lay out of this book is awesome. It is very easy for readers to follow text and related drawings. Lots of good and useful information on Die Design and Metal Forming. I would indeed recommend this book to Students and Engineers that deal with Die design and Metal Forming. Thumb Up!

This book will only be useful for someone who already has had professional experience with metal working, design, and manufacturing. I would not recommend this book if you are just getting started and would like to find out more info, over all a lot of info but only useful if you are a teacher or a professional already.
