Shelia's story is about child abuse, her story is not for the faint of heart. Shelia goes through too much after the sudden death of both her parents when she is sent to her aunt and uncle. The abuse begins as psychological, then physical, then sexual
Even though Markaza comes to the rescue, Shelia still needs to go through much of the pain. It is the type of experience that will make a person stronger in the end.
And talking about strength, we get to check on Lily and Bronya and see their progress. Until Shelia joined them, they still didn't know what was expected from them and now that they know what's in their future they begin experimenting with powers they did not know they had.
The Mystic series brings many things to light, it is a powerful book and story for people of any age. I know I will be getting the next book in the series!
I cannot believe how emotional Shelia's tale made me. I cried, cried and cried again. The intensity in this particular character's story touched my soul. The desperation I felt for her to get out of the hell she was expeiencing for most of her life wracked me with sobs. Jo Michaels truly knows how to pull you in and rip your heart out, but of course that is a good thing. LOL
I also have to mention that I enjoyed getting to see more interactions between Bronya and Lily. Add Shelia to their group and I am beginning to see how much these girls need and will draw strength from each other. I love these girls! Awesome story so far...to be continued on the next novella.
Shelia picks up right where Lily left off. This continuing story surely keeps me on my toes and edge of my seat while reading it. Persaonlly I related to Shelia more so because of my own personal experience with abuse myself. The world that the author is building truly unique and original. I look forward to the next installment in this series. I also wish the author best of luck with all projects.
There was also more action in the latest installment of the series. The girls finally start experimenting with their powers while Markaza has more visions of the future. I was on the edge of my seat during a particularly harrowing scene where an attempted rape occurs.
Although the books are quick reads, they are not without packing an emotional punch. Almost EVERY PERSON is awful. It makes you wonder why the girls are even bothering to save humanity if these are the kinds of people they come across.
The book deals with tough subjects, but it was refreshing to read a very pro-feminist novel. The pacing was excellent and I finished the book in only two sittings.
