It is a story of a man who lost everything. It shows how a mistake can lead to tragedy and how a life of sin leads to misery and despair. It is not an action packed thriller, so I can assume that the one star rating is by the people who don't enjoy or understand a deeply emotional or spiritual melodrama. The acting, music, scenery, shots, editing and storyline - good work. Meaningful film that leaves you thinking. I love finding these gems among the underrated 3-star movies.
It opens with a very young woman apparently having had sex with an old wreck of a man who had been a friend of her father, in a bed with a huge cross over it, even though her boyfriend is about to return. I don't care where it goes from there.

The Shelter is a unique psychological/supernatural thriller that will take you into the deepest depths of a broken man's soul as he struggles to come to terms with the guilt he feels for his past misdeeds. A long history of debauchery resulting in the death of a loved one has left him a mentally tortured, homeless alcoholic. When he stumbles upon an empty house that seemingly welcomes him to enter, he finds himself literally trapped inside with his memories haunting him - or are there real supernatural powers at work punishing him? This is a question you must figure out for yourself, which is the beauty of this haunting story. Beautifully shot, atmospheric and haunting with a great score, I highly recommend this movie. Finally something new and unique in the horror genre!
This was a decent movie but not worth purchasing. The plot was good to start with but quickly sank. If you need something going on in the background while you are working on something this is a great flick.
This Michael Pare movie was really good. It's a Supernatural thriller. If you love Ghost Movies. This ones for you. It was nice to see Michael Pare I hadn't seen him in awhile. He's best known for Eddie & the Cruisers part 1 & 2.
