The women who have been coming on Tuesday evenings are warm, fun, and faith-filled. They are also insecure, controlling, fearful and angry. Basically, they're just like you.

Following the guidelines of Nicole Unice's new DVD group experience based on her book She's Got Issues, we've been meeting to talk, eat some food, watch a teaching clip and share our hearts.
Of course, I love taking time to interact with women, {I also love the excuse to bake yummy treats and light a few candles.} but my favorite part about this experience has been that the book and the teachings are so, so good and so, so applicable.

Each week there is something heart-grabbing that stops me in my tracks and gives me an "ah-ha" moment. Something that sends me searching through scripture and underlining or scribbling notes.

Complete with quizzes to help you understand your weak points, teaching to direct you back to what God would say, printable journaling prompts and a great clip just for leaders- the DVD experience of She's Got Issues has everything you need for a successful group study.

In the introduction Nicole takes time to explain how the book came to be and to give a little glimpse into her personal walk with God. It's a beautiful story and so full of grace that it makes you hungry for more.

Even if you can't do a group study, the DVD is a wonderful tool for personal use.

I received this book and DVD from Tyndale Publishers in exchange
for my honest review.

In She's Got Issues, the author teaches that every woman struggles with issues and to varying degrees. Of all the issues, that plague mankind, the five that are the biggest problems among women are control, insecurity, comparison, fear, anger/unforgiveness. The author devoted two chapters per issue and in the first chapter, she explains what the issue is, how it can affect a woman, and the underlying causes for the issue. She also included a checklist for each issue, which I found was very helpful in determing how much of a problem each issue is in my life. In the second chapter, devoted to each issue, the author wrote about the importance of allowing God to heal that part of yourself as well as our responsibilities in the healing process. Throughout the entire book, the author used true stories of real people to illustrate the points she was trying to make and Scripture verses to further the point that was being made. I found this book to be very enlightening and it caused much self-reflection for each issue that I read about and I found the stories and Scripture verses to be quite compelling. I think that this is one of those books that would be beneficial for every woman and teen girl to read because I have seen for myself that these issues are very prevalent in our society today.

If the number of paragraphs I highlighted in this book is any indication... then I have a lot of issues!!

I was lucky enough to receive a pre-release copy of "She's Got Issues." SO GOOD. I loved Nicole's writing voice; she is so authentic and hilarious. But she also offers discerning insight into my heart. She is honest with her own issues, and fills the chapters with truth from Scripture.

I often feel that I'm supposed to be some perfect "woman of God," and then I get discouraged that I can't seem to muster up the energy to be that.

"She's Got Issues" is freeing instead of discouraging. It helped me own my issues (you have them too!) instead of pretending they don't exist. And in that honest place, to trust Jesus to bring freedom in these "little" areas of my life that have burdened me for years.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Read it, ladies!

I'm such a fan of Nicole Unice and this book. I love her honesty and her frankness and her willingness to make it okay to talk about our issues (after all: we all got 'em!). This is a great resources for the times we get tangled up in those issues. Very freeing and very empowering.

I did this study with a bunch of ladies ranging from mid-20’s to early 60’s at my church. What a fantastic study!!! So much could be applied to all age groups. The author goes into great detail on how we as women try to control things in different ways. Not just the standard “dictator” kind of way, but even emotional manipulation, jealousy, fear, weight issues – everything we try so hard to control! It was the best book I’d done in a bible study class because it created tons of honesty in the group, fantastic discussion points, and all of us having to face the fact that Jesus is there for us – our one defense and all we need. We just have to choose Him and let the rest fall aside. No, this book is not heavy on looking up scripture (though there is plenty), but it is full of excellent and very relevant discussion points that women of today need to choose how to handle – and what better way to do that than with a group of fellow Christian ladies who are fighting the good cause along your side? And lastly, I LOVE how the author is so incredibly honest about being a mom and having a career and trying to juggle it all when on the outside everything looks perfect, but on the inside you feel like something just isn’t right. My favorite part is when she writes about having 60 seconds of privacy while she locks herself in her bathroom, away from her 3 young children, just to brush her teeth and regroup. However, her young daughter won’t leave her alone and keeps whining through the door over and over again. Finally the author yells, “BE PATIENT!!!!” back through the door while trying to finish brushing her teeth, but catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror realizing the irony of the situation. Every mom in our group could completely relate and instantaneously wanted to be her friend. We all felt understood and not judged. After that moment she had and always will have, a grand group of followers. I hope there is another book in the future!
